took the 6 about 10 miles into the mountains behind Somis for a scout campout.....had to go down a steep tractor cut road to get to a wash where we camped. Coming out in 4X it did great, seems to shift and sounds great.......sooooooooooooooo happy to be cruizen the Jeep again

not at all....it's pretty protected with the hangers for the shackle reversal there, thought about attaching a skid under the bumper for more safety.......have to think about it more

well............was very relieved that my tranny problem only ended up being a loose OD.
still have a couple projects left.......have most of the parts gathered for doing OBA, probably later in the fall......and I'm still running the F-Head radiator (which has cooled fine) but want to switch over to a larger unit , maybe a Mustang rad??????
all in all very happy with the mods and performance......havn't done any serious wheeling since Big Bear, was suppose to be on this latest Rubicon trip but things didn't work out for that........planning several local runs over the next few months however

My son has been driving my 6 to school this year, he called me several weeks ago to say there was something really wrong with the rear axle so after inspecting the broken u-bolt we had it flat bedded home.......axle moved several inches, broke the centering pin and the brake line..........
I'm updating the cause and fix so nobody else copies my faulty engineering and ends up like I did
this is what it looked like when I finished it way back on page 40 of this thread

the top plate though 1/2" thick bent over the axle to the point the ubolts loosened up and one eventually sheared..........glad there was no injuries to my son .....
the fix involved cutting down square pipe that is 3/16's thick, I drilled 2 1/2" holes in the middle

then I split them down the middle so theyed fit over the axle......I drilled out 5/8"s holes for the new 9/16" ubolts to go through

then mounted them and put the 1/2" plate back on top.....torqued to 90 pounds I feel alot more confident I won't have further issues

I need to weld shock mounts to my axle in the rear now to allow for more travel but that was on the to-do list anyway

Just an FYI - I usually see those top plates welded together (didn't see it in your write up so I thougth I would mention it).

 

Welded solid or tacked together?

 

You just had a flat plate on top of the axle tube?
