Just Got Myself Into A 6...

well its now official since its in my friends Trailer....
I hate putting the evil eye on these things.. tends to make deals fall apart...

In light of the accident at SVE and setbacks with my CJ5, I need something new to focus my attention and neurosis on..

1973 Cj6, 304 V8 factory mounted hardtop..
a sweet 6 with an 8…

Plan is... well there is no plan..
get it running, stopping, steering and enjoy for now..
But it would be cool to build a new wheeler... :

Lots of potential there. Factory hard top (plates not latches), looks like it's been on all its life. What color was it originally?

 

Are the roof vents factory? looks it has some on the back door too. Could we see some more of the vents?

I think you are seeling the high-mounted tail lights on teh back. You can see the wiring from inside.

These are not factory vents, AFAIK. But not a bad idea, if installed cleanly.

well these are the CL pictures.. I can get some better ones when i get to examine the jeep a bit better..
speaking with a few people in the know about this the jeep might be a euro spec?
due to the lights and other little bits some people saw...
the top has been on the jeep since it rolled off the factory floor, the vin says "full meyer hardtop"

The driver's side body panel has been replaced. Note the position of the "Jeep" lettering, and lack of a V8 badge. The right side is the correct configuration for 1973.

100% USA. These Jeeps were in production for domestic sale through 1975. Tail lights were added by the PO at some point. Would have come with the 'last round tail light' at bumper level.

 

agreed, but the euro spec tailights were mounted on the hardtop as these are...
there are no such holes in the rear of the tub for traditional tail lights..

the wiring in the hardtop looks factory... ?!?!

the rear door is also a full swing gate..

either way, I would have purchased anyway.. possibly looking to build another wheeler..

 

Hardtop wiring is nothing that couldn't be done by someone who cares about how it looks.

Just an observation from the pics.

 

Yes, see the plates that connect the windshield to the dash? Those are only used with a factory cab. All others get catches, so the windshield can fold down.

The body has been repaired, so the original tail light holes could have been filled.

The barn door was available for the Meyer cab - you just had to order it that way.

 

fb..............Cute...........and at least the hardtop is in great condition.............I would think that if it was factory installed that would be quite rare as I always thought for the most part the tops got installed at the dealership?

how are the frame on these guys generally?
if im planning to build a 6 for wheeling is this somethign I need to address..

never had to pay much attention to my YJ frame.. just went with it..

Don't know how much hardcore wheeling I'd do in it. That one is in such good shape it would make a great restro-mod wheeler. Slight lift and 33s is all I'd do to it other than drivetrain improvements (lockers, gearing, brakes, etc).

Is it just me or does it look a little "nose up" from the cowling forward?

 

That thing is awesome. I say keep it near stock or mild. At least don't do anything that isn't easily reversible.

 

i havent built a wheeler in a while and i thought this would be a great platform for a family rig...
the last 3 vehicles I have built or am building are street/mild off road use...

Am i asking for problems with a 72-75 frame? Im not looking to invest the $$ for a TDK frame..
