I did a dry run, then a 2nd try with gasket and Permatex and an now on my 3rd try. I cannot get the dana 20 to complete the last 1/8th inch to mate up to the T14. Any common issues I should be looking for?

    Thanks,

    Jay

I had a very similar issue when I mated my D18 to the SM420 with the Novak adapter. It was not easy and I am not happy with it. I used a dead blow hammer and the mounting bolts to pull it flush. Still I don't like it, but haven't had issue.

Also not happy with Chris' response. His is a custom app that I would guess has little to do with the factory components here.

Is this under the Jeep or on the bench?

The couple of these Borg-Warner 3-speeds that I've been into, they went together without a lot of fuss. I have done the T-14/D20 on my back, with only the factory jack to support the back of the engine. I lifted the T-14 and then the D20 into place with my muscles, holding with one arm while I started the bolts with the other. Long time ago, I was younger, dumber and stronger (I presume), but that's how I did it. The other time I had both of them on the floor, but I don't recall whether I put them up apart or together. Anyway, my experience says it shouldn't be difficult. I've had several transmissions in and out for my and friend's cars, and never had to use a lot of force.

JMO - if this is up in the Jeep, I would pull the T-14 down and see if I could mate them on the bench. This will give you a better idea of what's keeping them apart.

Also, the T-14 is common to the earlier Jeeps, and you might get a better response asking for help in the early forum.

I think the t14 has a little steel lock plate that goes beween the counter shaft and the reverse idler shaft on the back of the trans. I bet yours has slipped out of place and it's not letting the tcase sit flush against the trans.
