I think it was thin closed cell foam sort of like the foam you'd put under a truck cap except thin and of course a sheet.

The book says Jeep PN 991442, original PN (says to use 998472, Thriftside taillight app).

It's a foam of some kind. That kind of stuff can be bought aftermarket if you are willing to pay a premium price to get exactly what you want: McMaster-Carr

For me, I have a big box of salvaged packing material that I would look through for something suitable.

Reminds me of the stuff in kid's crafts for making Christmas decorations. Often with adhesive backing. I'll have to check out Hobby Lobby.

I used Felpro gasket material when needing gaskets for my various light housings etc - comes in various thickness and materials (rubber vs cork vs foam etc) so make sure to get what you want:

I used this for the headlight buckets, fenders and grill. Worked well, easy to apply thick or pull it out to a thin strip.

Hobby Lobby will have closed cell foam in sheets and various thickness, colors, etc. I have bought it there, works good.

Found some in craft section of wal mart. Would prefer to give Hobby Lobby my money but it's an hr drive where I rarely go. Got two each 8.5x11 sheets of black and white.
