Ignition Switch

So my 1965 Cj5 doesn't seem to want to turn off like it should when I turn the key off, it runs a little after.
Last weekend I blew the fuse in between the starter & ignition switch for the firs time ever.
Put a new fuse in & it started right up !!!
Could this be the switch going bad ?

It doses stop after running a little.
Don't seem like dieseling, it doesn't have the shaking & jumping like some of the dieseling that I've seen.

 

A new ignition switch might be a cheap and easy fix. Or just a way to eliminate that possibility. I was having some hard starting and unexplained dead batteries. A new ignition switch seemed to make a difference.

 

Leave it in gear and let out the clutch after you shut it off. Running on can come from too much advance, idle set too high or something else?

It is strange because it was running great & never done this before.
Got a new switch on the way.
I will do the clutch let out & see what happens.

Welcome from Michigan, just a suggestion, when I replace switches on my Jeep if I can't find original I use Marine switches, just because they tend to be more moister resistant, Just a suggestion. I use Marine wire and hardware when replacing electrical just because My Jeep and I get wet sometimes. Good Luck

Speaking of ignition switches (and I think it's the source of my "another short somewhere" in my signature), I can't seem to find a source for the black plastic/bakelite bezel that snugs it up to the dash. Can anyone point me?

 

FYI, the new stuff gets reviews that are not exactly great, especially if it is a Omix item. Real hit or miss. But you can rebuild them. I did mine. Many times just needs cleaning and some electrical lube.

I have three switches, a 64, a 66 and another one, not sure what year it is, and there is not a bakelite part on any of them?

What you see here just to the right of the key hole is the snugger-upper nut I'm talking about, only mine is black plastic. It still has the fluted outer edge like this one does. It sure looks original to me ('cept it cracked in half... currently duct-taped around its outer edge.)
