J10 Suspension Questions

that's it...I use it if I want to be more precise...the avy slope inclinometer is just cheap and easy and I don't mind leaving an extra in the tool box getting beat up.

My brunton is vintage 1950's - was originally my fathers when he was in college at Colorado School of Mines. He gave it to me when I started doing more geo stuff in college and I used it for all my field research for 10 years or so. When it was bought, it had the fancy-smancy needle damping feature, but sometime in the last 10 years the needle is sticking. Even though its normal sized, its way too heavy with the metal case for most of my backcountry recreation usage, and no plans for more geo field work at this point. Bt I was thinking of sending it back to Brunton for a rebuild - when I first checked into it, the price was too much, but maybe I can afford to be a bit nostalgic at this point.

As for the J10...we (well mostly the owner), got it all set-up nicely. Here it is recently with the new suspension - it seems just a bit high in the front compared to the back. I think the tires are 31s, but they could be 32s.....


here is the rear driveshaft angle - just a few degrees which matches the angle at the transfer case - should be enough to keep the u-joints turning but no other issues.

 

I'm not understanding the stance being like that unless there is a heavy load in the bed.

I haven't seen it in person with it all finalized, but not sure if its the angle of the picture or if its really a bit low in the back...the tires are small for the set-up now, and that may accentuate the fender clearance in the front, and you just can't see it in the back with the angle of the pick? I don't think he's got much load in the back except maybe some sand bags for snow. I carry about 180 lbs in my tacoma during the winter - but that shouldn't cause too much sag.

 

It's funny you mention that. Saw an older Blazer the other day raised in the front and thought about that discussion.

 

As you can tell, the bumper is set-up for winch - just budgetary constraint for a bit, but guessing it won't be long before one is added. Its has the quadratrac transfercase, but has been modified so that you can disengage the axle drive - don't know those details...like if its a mile marker type part-time conversion or what not... It could also really use some sort of traction device as its open/open. But as a fun truck for all around use its pretty sweet.
