There was nothing "sarcastic" or "deadend" in my remark.

Use cornhead grease, cornhole grease, or Crisco if you want to. Its your Jeep.

My opinion is based on my experience, while yours appears to be based on internet searches. Your opinion may change later on if your 2A doesn't have Spicer joints

Food for thought, That knuckle I pictured is full of 80-90. They are wet to the touch but not dripping. I packed the kingpins and seals with assembly lube when assembled.

If 80-90 leaks to the differential it is of no consequence and visa versa if it leaks to the wheel bearing I get "knuckle pudding" and leaky hubs which are easy to see. Should I have any issues with the knuckle I don't have to worry about what base lubricant I need to use because I already have extra 80-90 for the differentials, transmission and transfercase.

What happens if cornhead grease gets in the pinion bearings with 80-90 or wheel bearings with grease?

Not that anyone started this thread asking anything but where the hole was.

    Good point JW

Interesting you are getting good results with 80-90 wt. I haven't tried it, figured it might be a tad thin, but I have seen how you Jeep, you sure don't baby your ride, and if it works, it works. I don't think there is much chance of cornhead grease in the knuckles going anywhere. The stuff is designed to stick to surfaces. I think the reason farmers use it in leaking steering boxes, is they have it on hand for their corn harvester, and it cures the leaks. I had an old John Deere that had that treatment, the steering gear was worn slop out, but it didn't leak.

I posted my experience and I referenced a magazine not the internet...As I said, I have 15 years in my J2000 running cornhead grease and yes my 2a has spicer joints. Nothing in your post regarding experience...

I have been working on old cars, including plenty of old Jeeps for more than 50 years, and have socks older than 15 years. Spicer joints hold up a long time even without proper lubrication, same as the U-Joints on driveshafts do, I think that is why folks think the grease is working, but that is just opinion. I have experienced an axle joint explosion likely due to improper lubrication, and that is experience.

No reason to get defensive, or go on the offense, you mentioned Google searches, not me.

I used Lubriplate 105 in my 3B knuckles for 40+ years. Both the Bendix and Spicer joints along with the kingpin bearings were just fine with the stuff. Nary a problem there. Spider gears and axle shafts are a different story. The best solution to this conundrum is open knuckles--------

Well, when I was in the Navy, it's what we called the lube we put on O rings.. So I was like, what the heck, lets see what google has to say on this.. Yep, it's O ring lube.. Just not the O ring I was thinking of.. And yeah, this came up on the wal mart website..

More of a game thing, NOT a Freudian slip:whistle:.
Early model open knuckle Dana 30 axles used a tin shield below the bearings. I installed a pair of these shields under my upper races, sealing them. They require an added stack of shims to offset the shield thickness.

That is an interesting idea. I assume you mean you install later shields into a Dana 25 or 27 ? If so, I think that is a good idea.

I opened the torqueking closed knuckle lube today. It is thinner consistency than I expected. Definitely thicker than motor oil or diff fluid. Not as thick as the Castrol Pyroplex ES2 grease I am using in my other axle bearings. Not at all the pasty consistency of the knuckle lube metalshaper shows on his videos. It looks like it would splash into the upper kingpin bearings. I packed the kingpin bearings and it didn’t leak out of the bearing.
It has an amber color and an ok smell. I’m probably 4 months away from having my rig running, but I’m going to fill the knuckles pretty soon , so I should have some idea of whether it leaks. If there is anything specific you want like a photo, let me know.

I have 27A. The shields come in a dampner kit for first gen Bronco's with the open knuckle D30. I'm sure there are more applications. I did not use the dampner button but don't see any reason why it would hurt.

I clicked into this thread to figure out where to put the cornhole grease in the dana 30 on my Jeep. Still haven't figured it out.....

I packed the kingpin bearings with the torqueking product a few days ago. Because it is thinner than other greases I have used, it easily packed into and around the rollers. I left them out on a shop towel for a few days and some of it wicked into the towel, but the shape didn’t settle and nothing looked like it dried out 8A04A2D6-C03B-4D73-BF95-F9491C0F90DB.jpeg
