Very nice. I will eventually make my own also. Do you have a lnik to the type of axle you used? That was my main issue is where t oge a small enoguh axle. I will have to find some 6 lug hubs though ;) I wodner if it would be a good or bad thing to add trailer brakes on it to help on the trail?

Nice, may have to steal that idea as that hitch would very nicely mate up to the recovery point on the back of my CJ.

You use it for camping gear or what?

Camping gear, trail repair/maintainence tools. My plan was to put a rear seat back in the Jeep (wish I had the one I threw away 15 years ago) so I can start taking the grandkids out for some trips and still have somewhere to put all my junk.

That would be a fun ride.

BTDT trailer with no lights or wood. Late at night, making sure it towed straight while it was still bare before the folks used it for hunting...
Sitting was painful. Standing was like I was on a bucking bronco. It WAS fun R)

whenever you get to it,what are the demensions of the floor? thx bob

The floor is 36" wide and 48" long. Actually a little less because of the thickness of the sides. So it probably measures out net at closer to 34" x 46". I haven't had any time to work on it lately, but I started on the tailgate about 2 weeks ago. I hope to have some finished pics in the next week or so. The sides are 16" high.

the reason i ask is that northern tool has a trailer that is 40x48 and it appeared close to your demensions. your trailer is what i've had on my mind for a while.if i can get an axle to the same wms to wms as the jeep i think i'll have something close to your's.keep us updated.bob

posimoto, the trailer looks great and the hitch is totally cool!
But what, if any, advantages are there over a pintle hook?
(I mean, besides the "I did it, and no one else has one like it!" coolness factor?) :)

I think it's because it can also rotate laterally (Ithink)
Supose the Jeep is on level ground with the trailer, you can jack the trailer all the way up on the driver or passenger side, roll it, so on. Wont bind up on the trail.

The only functional advantage over the pintle is that it doesn't rattle. Other than that, it's the "coolness factor" all the way. I don't know what the rotational limits of a pintle are, but mine is 360' ;)

Made a little more progress yesterday and today. I made a frame to hold my tool/parts box and have the tailgate done except for the latches. I still haven't decided how the tailgate is going to latch. Something simple, no rattles. Any ideas out there? Anyway, I posted 4 new pics in the Webshots album. Here's the link:

I'll try to get some pics of the tailgate up tomorrow. :)

I posted a few more pics yesterday. I'm pretty much done. I'm not required to have fenders, but I'm thinking I may put some on anyway. The tailgate is held closed with two thumbscrews so it is solid and doesn't rattle. The new pics are on pages 2 & 3.
