Here's where I am at today. I have to fabricate some top rails to attach the 1 1/8" plywood sides and deck. There's also a new pic of the hitch hooked up to the Jeep at the link on page 2.

Indeed! I'd like to see how it turns out. Photos, man. More photos. Besides, I've got a trailer build on my list and I'm not adverse to stealing an idea or two (or three.) :)

I posted a couple more pics:

I hope to get some work done on the sides and floor today. They will be 1 1/8" plywood. Haven't really thought too much about how I'm going to do the tailgate, but I want it to be removable. Maybe an old set of CJ hinges?

All I have left to do is build a tailgate. I have the lights working and am ready to register it. Guess I'll have to make some fenders too.

    That is sweet
Is your state all cool and doesn't make you register the trailer if under 2000 lbs?

I have to register it. So the state can get it's blood money. I've heard conflicting stories about whether or not I have to have fenders though. Guess I'll find out when I get to DMV. I'm debating whether or not to take it down to Rubicon Springs when we go on Sat. Part of me says "Do it, you wuss" and part of me can't understand why I'd want to pull a trailer up Cadillac Hill.

Yep! Want to go? We're meeting at the staging area at Tahoma at 10 am. Coming back on Sunday. The downside......nightime temps in the upper teens to lower 20's. But, we're gonna have a BIG fire! The tough part will be that early morning bathroom break. Right now we have 5 rigs going with possibly one more I'm waiting for a comittment from.

Im curious about the axle you used , Whats the specs on it ? I havnt been able to find a narrow one with the "jeep" pattern . I have some ends off a bantum but I rather just buy a axle.

I went to a trailer supply and bought an axle tube with spindles to weld in. I cut the tube to the width I wanted and welded in the spindles. I had to order the 5 on 5 1/2 hubs as they didn't stock that pattern and, like you, I wanted to match my Jeeps wheel pattern. The axle tube (round 1/4" wall), spindles, hubs and bearings set me back about $150.00

How much would you put in it? 1000 lbs?

Because the box is so small, it'll be tough to get more than 1,000 lbs of anything in it. But, the axle is rated at 3,500 lbs. and the springs are rated at 800 lbs each. They were the lightest rated springs i could find and they only have 2 leaves in the pack.
