Turbo 231 Q-Jet?

While looking for an HEI distributor this morning at the local junkyard, I stumbled across the remains of a factory Turbo 231 in a '79 Buick. Anyway, it had a Q-Jet still on it. Would this be a good carb to use on the 225?

I think you'd score big if you got it. The Quadrajet is an excellent off-road carb, and I believe the low CFM ones are very scarce. I'd certainly take it if I saw it, and I don't have anything to use it on.

I'd take it too.. however they are not a whole lot diffrent from the common qjets. Also, make sure its not a electronic qjet - those are worthless.

Thanks guys. I'll try to go grab it tomorrow. I didn't get a real good look at it this morning, but it didn't look like it was computer-controlled.

I grabbed the Q-Jet this morning. According to what I've read, 1980 is when the computer-controlled carbs came out; this one is off of a '79.:)

Wow.. and it looks pretty clean ! What did you give for it ? What is the carb number on it ? It starts with 170... Are you going to put it on your jeep ?

I paid $36 for it (I can still get $5 knocked off if I bring in a core) here at a local junkyard. The carb number is 17059547. Yeah, I plan on putting it on the Jeep, but it'll probably be a winter project or something. Just have to locate a 4-bbl. manifold now. I never really planned on putting a 4-bbl. on the Jeep, but since I stumbled upon this....;)

Great score. I have a Q-Jet on my 229 V-6 works really great offroad.

Nice find Bob...I put rebuilt one on my brothers jeep about five years ago...his was an evenfire 231. It really woke it up at higher RPM's...good off road carb too.
