    I seem to remember a thread here that included original type CJ5 and military jacks not too long ago.

    Two brackets on each side of the back end. Just above the backup light. Im guessing its a hold down for hard a hardtop?

    How well do these stock jacks actually work? I carry a bottle jack & a couple of wood blocks in Tonk but an original style would be neat if they work fairly decently.

    I've never used the Jeep screw jack, but the screw jack from my F100 worked very well. The crank ran it up and down quickly, and I was able to lift each corner easily even with the truck fully loaded. The scissors jack from later years also works well, but it's really slow using the factory lug wrench to run it up and down.

    Did the Jeep have any other attachments? Draw bars, other farm stuff? Looks like maybe some sort of bar hold down?

    my thought as well, looks like a door stop/reciever on the back of a bread truck, but for what???

    My first thought was the receiving catch for a swinging tire carrier. But, then there would be only one of them.

    This is making me crazy.

    I'm sure I've seen one before - makes me think of mounts for emergency lamps or some such thing.

    Are there wires going into the back of it? Like a socket? The inside looks slotted like a bulb would slide in and turn.

    To me it looks like a turn buckle. You slide something in then turn the part (that has the paint chipped off) and that locks it in. Kind of like the soft top turn buckles but larger

    This used to be a plow Jeep. Maybe they also had a Salter attachment on the back. That would explain why the back bumper is Rusted through. I've never seen that before in my life.

    Here's the short question, "On a stock '70 CJ5, how was the heater fan turned on?"

    Here's the long story. A couple of years ago I bought a '70 CJ5. It came with a rusty heater box:

    I sandblasted, painted, and installed it:

    When I plumbed the heater core to the engine cooling circuit and filled the radiator with coolant, coolant leaked out of the heater core. I unplumbed the hoses and used the jeep without that heater. A few minutes ago, I removed the heater core and fixed the leaky outlet with solder:

    The fan motor looks like this:

    The dashboard looks like this:

    The pull knob above and between the gauges controls the heater core's flap. The toggle switch above the steering column (I installed that switch in an empty hole in the dash) controls another fan. How was the original fan controlled?

    Similar to this there is a vacuum line that controls the heater and defroster. The fan switch is on the left. This is on my 70 DJ5. I don't know if that is the original fan knob.

    This was on the 65 CJ5A I had a few years ago. I think this is the correct knob for 65.
