does anyone run a single gas gauge for both the rear and seat tank? I install the gauge and new sending units last year and never finished the job, I have a 6 post switch that I think will work if I can get it wired correctly. does anyone know the wiring for this setup or what would work?

Any help on this would be appreciated,

    Chip.

A simple single pole double throw (three terminal) toggle switch will work- center terminal towards the gauge, outside terminals one towards each sender.

You have a double pole double throw switch. Hook it up like Howard says except use only one side of the switch.

Yes...set mine up with a double pole single throw so it switches both the guage and the fuel supply line at the same time. Uses a Pollack style switching mechanism for the fuel line.

James- this is the same type of setup I'm looking to do, do you have any more information on the setup or wiring?

See if this helps...it at least has some discussion, part numbers and links to wiring diagram.

photobucket trashed my thread but I can get you some photos when I get back home to my PC where they are stored in a week or so.

[IMG]Is this something like the type of pollak tank switch you are talking about? This gives you an idea of the switch double pole single throw.

Yes, this is the Pollak valve instructions. This valve is sold as many brands. The DPDT switch here is used to move the plunger in the valve from one tank to the other by changing the polarity of the power connection. The advantage of this valve is its connections for both the tank source and return from both tanks. It also switches the gauge connections. This valve isn't cheap -

If you have no return line, this is the same switch without 3 of the connections. Amazon.com: Pollak 42-308P 3 Port Fuel Selector Valve Kit: Automotive

This Delco is the same part with 6 connections - https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0013FY5K...RE&pd_rd_r=1GA3Q89QGTC44602ZW5F&pd_rd_w=k01nU - you will need to buy the connector - same part from Standard - https://www.amazon.com/Standard-Mot...rd_wg=l1TiK&psc=1&refRID=7RSE66VNX6GRHS614KK2

I'd buy from Amazon due to their easy return policy, but many other sources - RockAuto, eBay, etc.

If you just want to switch the gauge connection, a SPDT (single pole double throw) switch is all you need. Connect the gauge to the center lug, and the two sending units to the outer lugs.

Yes...thanks Tim and Walt - that is exactly what I did with the 6 port valve. I wanted the return lines to switch as well. The hardest part is the valve is set up for lines that are a size bigger than the jeep lines...so there is some extra rubber line to step up and down the fuel line between the hard lines and the valve ports. I mounted it on the firewall behind the air cleaner...oh and yes I think it is a dpdt switch. one of my favorite and most useful upgrades.

You can use any of the aftermarket cj 15 gal replacement tanks for 72 and later. They are not all the exact same...some differences in mounting and skid plate and filler necks....but all will work. I used a 72-75 replacement as I had all the other parts from that vintage from local salvage yard.

Thanks for all the information, I have most of this already in-place so I just need to wire for the aftermarket fuel gauge. I'm running an electric tank selector, inline fuel pump, fuel pressure regulator with no return fuel lines, I've been running this setup for several years and it works great, less fuel gauge that is...

I'm going to work on this in a couple of weeks when I finish my tie rod flip work that I'm doing now. I will post some pictures when complete.
