Thanks Daryl. If I can get a four hole bracket, at a reasonable price I will use it. Now is the time to swap it in there.

Could the box bolt to the bracket then install the bracket on the frame?

    Yes, as I recall.

I know the '76 up ones are often replaced by an aftermarket bracket, but that's the only replacement I have seen for the intermediates.

Boy do I feel dumb. Yes, yes it could. Thanks.
After installing my clutch yesterday before torqueing down the flywheel bolts, but then remembering it before installing the transmission, I was hoping that it was a sign that I was getting smarter. Oh well.

Backing up to what Tim is talking about, the variable ratio steering box, these are really the best of both worlds. Reletively "slow" at the center for driving down the road without being twitchy, and then progressively faster the more you steer off center. The only way I know to identify one is to pull the top cover off and look at the teeth that mesh. If the center tooth is taller, then its variable ratio. If they are all the same height, then standard constant ratio.
I've never used a variable ratio in a Jeep, but it might be a good idea.

Been using variable ratio gear boxes for years..........easy to have your old Saginaw gear box re-valved......mine are 16:1 in the center and 12.7 at the edges , best of both worlds.

Tom Lee @ Lee Power Steering in LA has recently came out of retirement in a new business venture........... or PSC in Texas is another company that is more than capable.
