Definitely not a Quadratrac, which among other things has an offset rear output in line with the front output, like the D18. Most likely thats a D20 transfer case.
Thats an early Dana 30 front axle due to the drum brakes, and yes, hiding under the front hub trims are manual lock-out hubs. Those are not lockers, which would be in the front differential housing.
You have lots of fabricated parts that appear to have been very well put together.

That looks like a Dana 20 transfer case to me. Standard fare for 70's cjs. part time only.

 

Thanks Donny.... I got a little excited & ahead of myself , on this thread. This was a diamond in the
rough , very interesting acquisition on my end. Your right, whomever built this 20- years ago, knew what they were doing. The build project started with a 1975 Stock CJ5 in the high desert of Nevada . Then a lot of interesting fabrication transformations, over what looks like a 4 year period. Not any rust or salt for its entire life. This started as a ground up rebuild and then morphed into a show car mode. Thanks for all of your Guys knowledge. It's coming back to me and I've got some time coming up that I can really get into it. This is my last one & I'm going to have a lot of fun with some R & R and working on her ! -----Richie

 

I'd say it's a 20 (Dana 20). Likely that's the Dana-Spicer casting number, and won't have a lot of meaning. A less myopic pic of the transfer case would help, or the numbers from a steel tag under one of the cover bolts, if present (the tags are often lost). The tag will have the Jeep PN and some manufacturer's production numbers.

 

Thanks Tim, It is. BTW, I found that it has the locking hubs that I wanted. I did download a tech note on the Dana 20 Transfer Case. 9 pages. so now I've got that for reference. This girl is a complete stock rebuild , on the chassis that is. Would that mean that the rear diff / axel is a 44? Also, Do you think that they are both Floating axles or something else ?. Now that I started on my various chassis changes, I have been doing some research to bring myself up to speed. Therefore , I apologize if any of my questions are ignorant. I am a Quick teach though, And I much appreciate all of you guys knowledge & experience. This forum is the greatest .

 

Your '75 came with a Dana 44 rear. I don't see enough of it in any of your pictures to tell me otherwise. If it has anything different, it was swapped in.

If the weight of the vehicle rides on the axle shaft itself (like yours), it's a semi-float design.

If the axle shaft is only used for propulsion, like your front axle, it is a full-float design. The weight of the vehicle rides on a hub/spindle rather than the shaft itself.

Front = full float
Rear = semi-float

It's a common swap to convert the rear to full float for flat-towing reasons, and if you break an axle shaft in the boonies, you can still limp home without replacing the shaft.

Yeah, the plow earned its keep this year. I actually made some coin after all the neighbors threw some cash in a pot for me. It's melting quickly though. The hyacinths are already poking through.
