How To Tell Odd Fire Vs Even?

    Hi new to the forum. I have a 68 225 dauntless how do i tell the difference between the even fire and odd fire caps i just got this rig and many things are missing so any help with that would be much appreciated as well

    Those are also HEI caps and the difference with them. From the top, an HEI OF cap has 8 posts, but 2 are blocked off and inside there are short an long tangs. EF HEI caps only have 6 posts and inside the tangs are all the same length.

    Travis it's like Tim E sez. What distributor do you have or not have. Pictures would be a great help so we don't give you a bunch of info that won't do you any good.

    The even-fire Buick wasn't introduced until about 1977, and that was a 231 ci displacement. If you have a '68 Buick/Dauntless engine, it is a 225 odd-fire. A photo of the disrtibutor is the best way to determine the correct cap. It should be a small diameter (reletive to the HEI) and have 6 evenly spaced posts.
