The original installation does have rubber isolation bushings to mount the tank on the brackets. However, the tank sits directly on top of the brackets and the bushings go on top of the tank edge, so there's no electrical isolation provided by the bushings. From the top, bolt, wide flat washer, bushing, tank edge, bracket, flat washer, lock nut.

I'm sure the '76 up tanks (and the plastic tanks) sit right down on the skid plate, no pad. Parts book confirms this.

My 15 gal OEM tank has a foam thing between it and the skid.

Electrically, the sending unit has a ground wire to the body, so ground through mounting is irrelevant.

Have the new tank semi-installed. I don't have the front bracket. Need to build one. How tall is that front bracket? About 3"?

The foam thing between the skid and tank will cause your tank to rust out on the bottom. I've replaced a couple tanks because of this. Now I just leave the pad out and...no rust.

Hmmm. Maybe I'll remove it. But I live n a dry climate so I may be OK
