OK guess this mess part two!!
    This appears to be a 302 V-8 bell housing adapted to a T-86 to a D-18 Xfer.
This is all in a '71 CJ-5. Same one as I got the D-44 off set flanged rear diff. A true salad Jeep!!!!! My interest is the E-brake unit. I need one but if this is a d-18 I might as well just buy the whole thing.

The shift lever area looks odd to me on the x-fer. and it also has a plate bolted on the left side as if for a clutch cable or? OPINIONS please.

The transfer case seems to have remnants of a single stick shifter.

that bracket on the left side looks like the unit for the park brake cable, and it looks like it was a single stick.

bracket on left is for the cable clutch system . stock item
yep the parking brake unit will swap . single stick set up on transfer case linkage
only thing to consider is the speedo gear set (ratio)

So the D-18 "most likely" is the correct type for a 1971 CJ-5? I'll buy the X-fer though all I want from it is the E-brake assembly. Right now the seller wants me to buy bell housing, new clutch assembly parts, trans, and x-fer. To much shelf dust collecting stuff.

Thanks guys AGAIN for your help. I'm very grateful:clap:

The T86, bell, etc don't add any value. Frankly if they want more than $100 for the whole thing I'd pass. E brake assembly isn't hard to find.

Single shift lever, wouldn't that make it a large hole D18?

I agree, he has a D27 as well so thought of offering $100.00 for it all.

T-86 parts are scarce, I think. A T-86 is basically a T-90 with spiral splines, beveled sliding gears and a bigger bell pattern. If it's clean inside, I would think it's worth something.

You understand a '71 should have a T-14, not a T-86? T-14 is a significant upgrade from a T-86 IMO. A T-14 in good shape should also be worth money to someone.

Jim, I'm not far from you. What e-brake parts off the D18 do you need? I have some.

Need the whole unit.....I'm suppose to be buying a D27 frt. diff, T86, D-18 xfer tomorrow (Friday). It has the E-brake assembly on it. Will sell the t-86 and D-27. IF NOT, I will contact you. Would be nice to meet up anyway. Always fun to meet up.

    THANKS, Jim

The single stick TC suggests it to be big hole from a 1966-1971 with Dauntless.
The clutch cable control bracket suggests it to be 1970 / 1971 Dauntless.
The T86aa suggest it to be 1966/1967.
So it's certainly a hodge podge of parts.

You sir are 100% correct!! Since the PO built up a 302 V-8 and transplanted it in the CJ5, one would think a least use a T-14 OR better.

Brought home the D-27, t-86, and D-18 today. I will harvest the E-brake assembly off the X-fer and make use of it on a NOS X-fer. Will most likely part with the rest of the parts.

OK guys, I removed the e-brake assembly today and all went well:bananatool: but while looking over the top of the case, I noticed a hole that goes directly threw the top of the case. Look at the top left side, right where the OD gear would go inside the case, and you will see the hole. Is this normal on a late big mouth X-fer? If so, what is it for?
