1971 Commando Oil Pump Screen

Gents - Recently got my hands on a 71 Commando that has a V6 dauntless, 3 speed auto tranny and a frame/body that has minimal rust. It sat for the past 8 years in a garage until I got my loving hands on it.

Gave the crankshaft bolt some pulls with the socket wrench to no avail... it was seized up. Lubed the internals beyond belief and let it sit for a few days, it turned over and surprisingly she started. Vacuum leaks and just about every fluid was leaking all over as well. To be expected. Pretty sure last time it was driven and it went dry on oil causing it to overheat/seize.. it was put in the garage and hasn't been touched since.

Anyways I'm addressing the oil problem first. The oil pump pickup screen is clogged/gummed up and I can't seem to find a replacement part. Any leads? It can probably be cleaned but I was going to try and replace before I clean. I have the pump gasket and oil pan gasket already.

Thanks ahead of time for any help. I'll post more pictures of Commando later tonight. Her name is Betty. Vin - 870201768331

I don't know where to get a screen, but I had to pipe in to say that's a really solid looking Commando. Nice find!

Not sure you can get just the screen, I usually just clean the unit in the parts washer.
    Nice looking C101

It doesn't have to be for a Jeepster, the 225 is the same as a CJ.

The screens are designed to filter out large debris. As long as the screen is intact and the bypass is operational, it is serviceable. I would soak it in solvent/gas:shock: for a couple of hours and then blow it out.
Sludge in the pickup usually means sludge in the motor. You may want to pull a valve cover and check under there for further "insulation". If so, you may have to wash out the engine internals prior to replacing the pan or the pickup may give you issues again as the goo loosens and gets washed down into the sump.
