Sorry if I'm taking a shortcut on this, without searching.
How much is involved in putting a T98 behind a 231ef??
Maybe input shaft? Is it even available?
Possibly got one lined up for a reasonable price.
    TIA

The one I put behind my 225 bolted right up to the factory '70 BOP bellhousing. I didn't have to change anything, other than the pilot bushing, from what the T14 used. Same clutch and everything. That being said, I have *no* idea what it came out of, I bought it from Daryl a number of years back.

    Thanks
I have a T15 behind the 231 now and was trying to figure out about adapters, bellhousing, input shaft etc.

Also, be sure you actually have a T-98. Many T-18 shift tops have T-98 cast into them. Look at the side of the case - the T-18 will have T-18 or 13-02 cast-in.

JMO - a T-98 from a Ford truck has the value of a cigar butt if you want to put it in a CJ. A T-98 from a CJ-5 that originally had the F134 will already be adapted to the Dana 18 transfer case, and that might be worthwhile. The T-98 also appeared in various Jeep trucks and the Wagoneer, and those transmissions might be worthwhile pursuing. And it has to follow the rules in the post that Nate linked. Again MO, a 2WD T-98 is a boat anchor if you're converting a Jeep. If you have to buy the transfer case adapter, any of the later truck 4-speeds can be bolted up to the GM bellhousing with at most minor machining. Read the Novak pages.

    Many thanks guys.
There is no adapter with this trans. and the owner has no idea what it came out of. I read the Novak info and was still confused about adapting in a CJ. I will try to read some more.
    Thanks again.

Some pictures of what you have might be helpful. The front and back of the T-98 in particular. Is the T-98 already adapted to a D18 transfercase?

    I just got some pics of this thing. I don't think its a T 98 at all, but is a T 15.

Am I right? I don't have the trans. Just going off of what the seller said.

    Yep, that's not a T98 or T18.

    It's a really strong 3 speed...used behind the 304 V8.
