What Goes Here? On My 1970 Renegade I

Hi, I have a 1970 Renegade I. Pretty much untouched since delivery 52 years ago. I have had several early Cj's, but need some help identifying a couple of areas.

First is on the factory swing arm, there are two jerry can holders, but the top piece is missing, that clamps down the can. Anyone have a photo of what the piece looks like? I'd like to try to source or, if needed, fabricate a duplicate. Photo of holder here, I'm pointing at missing piece.




Second, what might have been mounted to the four rusty holes on the floor, just to the right of the drivers seat and under seat fuel tank? I circled them in red in one of the photos.

Nice, another Renegade I in yellow! Do you mind sharing your serial number and build date if it has the dash sticker? Is the stripe spacing on your seats narrow or wide? From the little I can see of your rear seat, they look narrow.

The jerry can carriers weren't factory original to the Renegade tire carrier, so hard to know what was in top unless someone has something similar.

The Jerry can holder looks similar to what’s on my Jeep. A threaded rod goes into the hole on top, and then an angled clamp slips over the rod, followed by a giant wing nut. Tightening down the wing nut causes the clamp to grab the Jerry can handle and pull it down and back. I’ll try to get pictures in a couple minutes.

October 1969 seems to be the build month of yellow Renegade I's! Carter has 2, I have one, and now you have one. Pictures of your jeep would be interesting to compare. Looking forward to your additional postings!

 

Possibly a San Angelo gun rack.

 

The PO added that (those?) to the swing-away. IMO those swing-away carriers are barely adequate for a factory sized tire, much less an added jerry can. I would delete the can carrier(s).

Presume you have the gas tank under the seat. The rear gas tank is an excellent addition to these Jeeps, and much better/safer than hanging jerry cans wherever they will fit.

 

The 4 holes on the trans tunnel could also have been an aftermarket console/armrest/storage box. I had a ‘72 CJ5 that had one of these boxes in that location, but that was over 35 years ago, so can’t verify the bolt pattern.
