Seats, i need seats!

Discussion in 'Intermediate CJ-5/6/7/8' started by pickin'n'jeepin, Apr 21, 2006.

  1. Hello, im pretty new to this forum and the jeep for that matter. Always wanted one and now i have one. My question is, where can i find seats for a 73 cj5? Iv looked everywhere, but the only seats i can seem to find are for 76 and up.

Bestop offers a replacement that's a direct bolt in. Keep in mind, though, that no one makes a replacement that has the fold-n-tumble feature like the original passenger seat. If that's important to you (getting kids or others into/out of the back seat) your best bet is to have the originals recovered (~$300 range).

Or - if you don't want lowbacks, the Bestop Trailmax will fit the original frames pretty well, are priced pretty good, and are very comfortable. I have pictures if you need them.

I have the original seats. All cracked, and was looking at getting a replacement. Could I get these Bestop seats, but use the original mounting hardware (i.e. save the fold-n-tumble of my passenger seat)?

If you mount them to your current frame, it will tumble (pivot forward) but it will not fold, that feature is integral to the internal frame of the seat... and the Bestop seats don't have that.

There's someone that advertises on ebay, selling seat covers for the original seats. Several here have the covers - maybe post on the early CJ-5 forum if you're interested and no one here responds.

The other possbility is to take your seats to a local upholstery shop and have them recovered. This will cost more than replacement seats, but they will look like new.

Both of these options will let you keep the fold-and-tumble feature.

I wanted high-back seats, so I modified the besttop trailmax fixed-back seats.

I'll get pics this weekend, as well as of the seat brackets I fabbed up.
