I just finished rewiring my jeep. I have power gettting to the solonoid but there is no click or anything I can jump the post and it turns over is the solinoid completly shot because it does not click or anything or could there be something wrong in the wiring?

    This is the fender-mounted solenoid?

The two big posts connect the battery cable to the starter motor. If you connect those with a jumper cable, the starter motor will run.

There are also two smaller terminals on the solenoid. They should be marked "S" and "I" (start and ignition) IIRC. Some applications only use the "S" terminal, and then you don't connect anything to the I post. When power is applied to the "S" terminal, the coil in the solenod is energized, pulling a plate into contact with the two big posts.

The solenoid coil circuit is completed through the solenoid bracket, so you must have a good ground through the solenoid mounting screws. If this is on a fiberglass fender, you'll have to add another wire from the mounting screw to ground on the frame or engine.

IIRC, the "I" terminal connects to the "S" terminal and provides 12V to the ignition during starting in some applications. Other applications take the ignition connection through the ignition switch, and don't need this connection.

Kinda wordy, but that's the gist of it.

It is the fender mount style and I jumped the battery to the started and it yurned over but I was asking since i have power to the S on the solinoid but the jeep wont start and there is no clicking or anything means I have a bad solinoid right? Sorry for the confusion.

Put 12V to the little "S" terminal and the starter should run. If it does not, you have a bad ground or a bad solenoid. Try removing, cleaning, and retightening the bolts.

Make sure your battery is ok by jumping the two big terminals with one of your jumper cables. You'll get a big spark and the starter should run.

I tried 12v to the little S terminal ans nothing happens but it does start when i jump the 2 big one

Did you try what Tim suggested? If not verify you have a good ground by running a temporary jumper from the grounding bolts to the NEG terminal of the battery. If you still have 'No Go', then just replace the solenoid. Let us know what you found out...

If you jump the two big ones and it start ? shouldn't the starter just spin? Then it is the bendict is struck . I am not sure but that way I rember it

Yes, the starter will spin but it won't keep running. For some applications, jumping the big terminals may energize the ignition through the "I" terminal, then the engine will fire but immediately stop as soon as the cable is pulled away. On single-connection applications that just use the "S" terminal, there should be no ignition at all.

If you just rewired the jeep are you getting power to the s terminal during crank?

Alright that problem is solved it was a combination of a bad ground and the solinoid was also bad. Now I got to rebuild the old motorcraft cause fuel was dripping out instead of spraying.
