I’m sure it’s probably fine but I would like it a little lower since I’m cruisin the freeway every day

Modern cars do amaze me. A Turbo v6 truck can go up a hill 65mph at 1400rpm with 3.31 axles with 3 overdrive gears getting 20+ mpg. It just sounds like a regional jet mid flight with a variation of pitch to the whistle.

Some guesstimates on rpm calculators puts you at 4 or 4.5:1 ? What do the diff tags say?

Yeah, it would be hard to change, maybe a little taller tire would help a little but the lower gearing is better off rd. Its a just a trade off either way.
I think the best RPM for economy if just when the engine is approaching the RPM where the max torque rating is. Usually at a lower rpm than where max horsepower is rated. In the case of the 304 it is probably around 2400:study: would need to look it up to be sure.

Diffs have been gone through by a previous owner and I’ve been too lazy to count the teeth but it’s definitely around there

I’ll eventually be going to 33s when I get extra money so that’ll drop the rpm a little bit. Not much but at least approaching a more comfortable rpm. I believe the 258 hits max torque at around 2000

I don't remember posting a picture of my 47 Truck Conversion, so this might be a duplicate post. I know a lot of folks are purists, and don't like modified rigs, but I started with a well used 47 CJ2a I built for a friend 26 years earlier when he lost interest in jeeps and sold it to me for a good price. In addition, at almost 6'5", I don't fit in a flat fender very well, but really wanted another flat fender since I love old flat fenders.

As a result, I decided to build a rig I could actually drive and enjoy. So, I cut the frame just in front of the rear spring hanger and added 25.5 inches to the middle of the frame. To accommodate the new frame, I cut the body off behind the doors (it was pretty damaged, so no loss) and fabricated a new the rear section for the truck cab from 16 gauge steel that added 5 inches for leg room. I also fabricated a bed from scratch, including removing a 3 inch section from the tailgate so it was low enough to fit the bed and look like a stock jeep. I modified the roll cage so it extended into the bed, and added 4 disconnects so the roll cage can be removed in sections if needed. The soft top was built by a local company who makes boat covers, and built to my specs. I used doors and the center bow from a Best Top, and the rear section of the soft top is removable for summer driving while retaining the top section as a bikini top.

Lots of other mods, Buick 231, SM420, Dana 44 in the rear, and the entire drivetrain was moved backwards 4 inches to make more room for the radiator since I now have plenty of room for a rear driveline without dealing with steep angles. I added an Overdrive, Power steering and brakes, etc, etc, etc. Springs are aftermarket with a small lift, and I am running 33" KM3 tires, aluminum wheels and wheel adapters to move the tires 1.25" outward for better steering.

This picture is from our week in Moab over Thanksgiving. This was a test for the Edelbrock Performer carb that I modified for off road/off camber use, and it was amazing, never died and lugged down to 500 rpm on many occasions, like crawling out of Elephant Hill in the dark. I tried fuel injection, but after the ECU died several times, I gave up and decided to go back to a carb and just make it work well. With a 93:1 crawl ratio, I can go really slow, which helps a ton rock crawling in Moab.

Well, that didn't go as planned. I will try posting a picture again tomorrow. I tried to attach a file, but apparently it was a fail...

It's a permissions issue I'm getting. You may need to change the permissions on your media folder.

We finally got some snow here in Cleveland...very strange weather here too. I got to use my new plow for the first time! I promise I will not post a picture every time I plow the driveway. I just wanted to share this photo of the Jeep earning its keep.

The '71 hadn't moved for a month so I started it up and did a couple trips down the driveway and back to warm it up. It's pretty squirrely on the icy roads so I didn't leave the property.

It could use a wash job but that's not happening for a few months:
