    Did I miss something?
    T90 will work just fine in a 66 CJ-5
If it's a :v6: it'll need to be the long shaft version, and will require an adapter.

In another thread, Middlefork Miner discussed the issues he had with the T86/T90 trans. I assume he (middlefork) thinks the original poster is referring to that.

Middlefork also expressed concern that the original post should take time to analyze what he has, since the Jeep is missing a transmission and other parts could have been changed.

There are three different versions of t90

this page can help you identify which transmission you are looking at
    http://www.novak-adapt.com/knowledge/t90.htm

Some versions do require an adapater
    http://www.novak-adapt.com/catalog/adapters/engine_to_transmission/kits_cx.htm

Sometimes the t86 and t90 get mixed up when Identifying, so double check if its a t86 I would say you are in luck if it was because it should drop right in.

You might try putting a WTB ad if you are having trouble finding the transmission you want to go with.
You are in a hard place because you have so many options to choose from so I don't blame you for asking so many questions :)
If you go with a three speed it potentially could be the least amount of work if you found that t86 or t14

What do you have now? What are you trying to do?

If you have a T-86 now, you will need the long shaft version of the T-90, and a different engine adapter. The T-86 adapter will not work with the T-90.

You could take all the gears out of the T-90 and put them into your T-86 case, then you can use the T-86 engine adapter. This requires complete dissasembly and reassembly of both transmissions, to make one working transmission.

The right version of T-90 would be worth getting if you want to repair a broken T-86, or if you want to replace a T-90.

Ok, the T-90 was only used with the 134 cid 4-cylinder engine, not the V6. Do you have an engine? Will you buy an engine?

The T-90 is a 3-speed transmission with a non-synchromesh 1st gear. They are easy to rebuild, and parts are widely available. They work fine with modest sized engines, like the 225/231 cid Buick V6s or the 4.3L Chevy V6s, as long as you don't abuse them and you don't try and run ridiculous sized tires.

It would help to put as much information about your project as you can fit into your signature file. The signature shows up with every one of your posts. Click on "settings" at the top of the page.
