Depends. What adapters do you have? Original Bell housing come with it? Which T-18? Stick out on the input shaft? I have the same setup and am rebuilding currently. Where did it all come from? Novak website has a lot of great info. Pictures? We like pictures.

Engine first. The 300/340/350 Buicks (small block Buicks except for the 215 - see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Buick_V8_engine ) are basically the same block as the 225/231 with two more cylinders. They will sit on your existing mounts and mate up to your existing transmission. You will need to move the radiator forward to accommodate the extra engine length. This means using a late-style grille -or- shortening the "tunnel" between the grill and radiator on your existing grille.

I believe the big block Buick motors 400/430/455 will sit on the same mounts, but I'm not certain. The larger Buicks are probably too much for a CJ chassis anyway. Forget the early nailheads and the other GM engines sold in Buicks - you may as well use a small block Chevy and get the advantages that come with that.

The T-18 conversion is the same as with any other GM engine, be it the SBB, SBC, or 225. Lots of info about this conversion in old posts here, and on the Novak site.

    I believe coonhunter789 has a 225 V6, and not a V8.

Basically none of the T18's nor the T98's are a direct bolt up.
Many small modifications will be required to install one.
Very much depends on which specific T98 or T18 that you have to begin with.
Many of the T98's and T18's won't be reasonable to adapt.

Most guys prefer to install the Ford T18 that's been modified to accept Jeep adapters.

You could probably use the SEARCH function and read about it nonstop for a whole week.

Can you identify the specific T18 ?
Is it Jeep, Ford or IH ?
    What vintage ?
What was it originally removed from ?

It is a Jeep t18 and has the dana 18 already behind it. I would say it came from a jeep pick up but don't know for sure. It was in a Jeepster but not originally. Factory bellhousing with it. LONG input shaft

    The title says V8 ...

If the T18 is from a Jeep Pickup, and it has a long input shaft, it was behind a V8. You need to use an input shaft that's the right length for the GM bellhousing used with the V6 engine. Use the Ford T18 input shaft on that transmission. This will be the right length for the GM bellhousing.

Post some pictures of what' you've got.

NB the pickup never came with a Dana 18 though - only the Dana 20. So the transmission and transfer case were married at some point.

This has been covered a lot in older posts - it's a VERY popular topic.

Start here and read a bunch of old posts - https://www.google.com/#q=site:earlycj5.net+225+V6+conversion+to+T-18+4-speed - Google works best for this.

Pre 1971 or or post 1971 Jeepster ?
Post 1971 was original with an AMC engine if the donor Jeepster even has it's original engine.
Buick and AMC bellhousings do not interchange.
Dana 18 was not original to any of the Jeepster's anyway so we have no idea what specific T18 it is, nor the bellhousing either.

yep early jeep T18 . you could use it . but there are problems . that you will have to address . (1) need to change input shaft to Ford T18 . (2) bearing retainer will have to be machined to fit a GM bell housing . OD will also have to be machined unless you use a Ford throwout bearing .also shorten because of thicker 225 flywheel .(3) there is no GM (Buick)bell housing for a jeep T18 bolt pattern .thats why most use a Ford case . I did it but bell housing has to be welded on inside for you to drill and tap lower right hole . left lower hole also must be built up . so you can drill a 1/2" hole . head of bolt (button head) goes inside .(4)drive shafts will change .good luck

Too long. You don't have a long enough wheelbase. No room for the rear driveshaft. Other than that, it would work.

How much room would I need for the slip yoke to work?

It's not the slip yoke, it's the angle.

Measure your rear driveshaft. The T-18 transmission is maybe 2" longer than your T-86. The 350 bell is at least 5" longer than your T-86 bell. If you had a 15" rear driveshaft, you would now have an 8" driveshaft. The rear axle goes up and down about something like the length of your rear shocks, say 12". A 15" driveshaft that goes up and down 12" moves over a range of 46 degrees. An 8" driveshaft over that range moves 97 degrees. Not good - it's gonna break.

Get out your tape and measure.

You've got a lot to work with here. Everyone that goes to a truck 4-speed behind a 225 must do some adapting. There is no magic bolt-in configuration, AFAIK.

    Here's what you need - http://www.partsmike.com/index.php?crn=207&rn=1442&action=show_detail

Once you install this kit, you have to bolt your existing bellhousing without the T-86 adapter to the Jeep T-18 case. The T-86 bellhousing is just a Buick bell, same as any Buick car with a manual transmission. Modify your T-86 bellhousing to connect to the Jeep T-18. Drill new bolt holes, weld on more material, etc. This is what has to be done to use this transmission. I have not doen it, but Ron (twin2) apparently has. Send him a PM and maybe he can talk it over with you.

Your other option is to take the main shaft and adapter from this Jeep T-18 and use it as a conversion kit for a 2WD Ford pickup T-18. Here is a Novak article about adapting the Ford T-18 to a GM bell (your T-86 bell): http://www.novak-adapt.com/catalog/adapters/engine_to_transmission/ford_to_gm.htm - If you are good with transmissions, this may be a little easier. Look around and you can probably find a Ford T-18 cheaply. The Ford transmission will have to come completely apart, and reassembled with the Jeep main shaft and Jeep adapter. This will also require drilling some new holes and plugging other holes with threaded plugs.

Folks have been doing this conversion for a long time, and AFAIK there is no easier route. Everybody that completes it says it's very much worth the effort.

Tim has pointed you in right direction . parts mike for input shaft kit . heres inside of a BOP bell housing that I used for mock up . couldn't use it for final install . because it was too close to brake line coming off master cylinder . but it worked great for looking inside while I was making adjustments . Has a big hole in bottom . so you can see , what needed to be done, one other note from front of bell housing to rear of transfer case adapter was 20". this so you can see how much longer the unit you have is.
