Can anyone tell me what this hole is for on my 74 c-j project. It is in front of the drivers door on the door pillar near the upper hinge. It originally had a plastic plug in it but crumbled as soon as it was touched. It appears to be a factory made hole as it is painted around the edges. It is a rectangle type of hole about an inch tall and 1/2 inch wide. Is there a factory plug available for it? I've searched the parts ans service instructions along with the supplements and can find no mention of its purpose. Any help would be great.
Thanks! I would include a picture but I guess the only way to do it is to put it on the web first than post the URL. I have never been comfortable with the posting of pics to any web site as it than becomes public property. Sorry I'm just old school I.T. If you want you can send me an email/pm or what ever and I can send you the pic if necessary.
    Thanks again!

Here are a few that show the original plug installed and the hole after the plug crumbled.[IMG][IMG][IMG]

To the best of my knowledge, it's not factory. Maybe for an antenna? Typically antennas are placed on the passenger side though.

Where did the big broad dent in the cowl come from? First time I've seen body damage like that - as if the PO ran into a tree branch, or something fell on teh Jeep.

It is original paint and as I stated the edge of the hole is also painted. The rectangle hole was "Punched" through two layers of sheet metal. I have seen this before quit a few years ago but I forgot what is was for. Maybe Dj Mirror? As I found it in the woods (see my album) I am assuming that the dent is from a falling tree branch.
    Thanx!

Probably in no way connected... but on my '88 YJ that is the exact spot I had to drill and bolt a reinforcement for the parking brake mount.
