Engine pulley question

    I recently pulled out a whole bunch of parts I've stock piled over the last couple of year for the CJ. I thought I might start back up with trying to get the power steering mounted. I found some receipts for some parts that are almost two years old exactly. Wow I guess this project has been waiting a long time. It also means that the parts I bought two years ago and now realize are incorrect (pitman arm) can't be returned.:rofl:
    The hardest part by far has been the crank pulley. I'm striking out hard on this one. I have several of them and two are oh so close (the other ones I have must be '75 and up). One is the correct one I believe but it's bent just a bit. When the engine is running you can see the wobble. I don't think it's enough to throw the belt but it's got a wobble to it. The other one I have that is also possibility. it's straight but it's offset about 3/8 of an inch in front of the power steering pump pulley.
    So what does the board say? Would you run either of these pulleys?

    No, they should be in line to as good as you can measure.

    Unlike the V8s, mixing and matching pulleys for the 232s and 258s seems to always be trouble. The '73 258 PS pump mounts on the passenger side, above the alternator. There is a single pulley that bolts to the front of the original crank pulley. If that's not what you have, you are mixing parts from different eras. '75-on mounts on the driver's side. If you are mixing parts ...

    The bent one is the one that goes with all the rest of the power steering hardware I have. (pass. side). I've never seen another that looks like it. The other pulley I have came out of a FSJ with a passenger side set up, '72 I think. But it doesn't have the "centered" mounting point like the bent one. But it's not nearly as offset as the '75 and later pulleys I have either. What a pain...Hmm, maybe this is why I boxed all this stuff up rather than putting it on a couple of years ago.

    I would try to straighten the bent one that lines up. Chuck it in a lathe if you can.

    I did straighten some. I didn't try putting it on a lathe though. I'll have to give it a shot.

    Mine was bent and none of my pulleys lined up. Real PITA. My PS pump and brackets were from some Buick 350 job. My crank pulley was bent too. I chucked it in a lathe and faced it unit it was straight and messed with the rest until i got them in close alignment. had to cut the hub on the bent P/S pulley, and cut out the center on the alternator and make a hollow spacer for that. I found it impossible to find what I really needed pulley wise for the 225. I just had to make all of it. I did get a 4 belt crank pulley from a member here to replace the one i "fixed".

    Oh wow. Yeah that sounds fun. I was telling my wife recently it would be easier to just put a 304 in the thing.;)

    I did take the pulley to work and put it on the lathe. Unfortunately since we're no longer allowed to use company equipment for personal use I didn't have much time and didn't really make much of a change to it. It's bent on two different "planes" for lack of a better word. Like first someone pried on the edge with a screw driver and bent the groove part, then they yanked on it and bent the center too. I guess after that they tried taking the bolts out.
