Ok, so the 1970 CJ5 I picked up at an auction cheap has been sitting since 1991. It is seized so I pulled the engine and am doing new bearings and rings. The #6 cylinder wrist pin is very tight and the lifters are in need of a lot of work, but it looks like no machining will be required on it once it is cleaned up. That cylinder was tight enough that as I was getting things to move I ended up driving the bolt out of the connecting rod. No big deal, I'll just draw it back in with the nut. Rather than using alignment to seat it I tried force. Stupid mistake! Now I am on the search for a replacement. Does anyone know where I can find a connecting rod bolt like this? Dauntless 225 V6.

I have been on most of the jeep sites I could think of. Thanks for the help.

    Welcome to the site,

I would put a wtb ad in the classified section, I imagine one of the members has a spare

You might also contact TA performance. the last oddball buick part I got was from there.

I suspect the rod will need to be rebuilt if you replace the connecting rod bolt. Cap alignment depends on the bolt. IMO you are better off looking for a complete rod from a core engine.

TA Performance sells a complete bolt set for your rods, $59.

Do yourself a favor and have a machine shop clean and check everything. Last thing you want to do is an engine job and find out the block is bad. JMO

+1 on timgr's advice. You are asking for a spun rod bearing if you simply replace the bolt. When the bolts were originally installed on each rod, the big end was honed and/or resized to assure concentricity and assure the proper crush of the bearing.
It would be cheap insurance to have a machine shop rebuild at least this rod, if not the other 5, including fresh bolts on all.

Make sure you get some references on a shop you choose. I have had some less than stellar experiences and OTOH have had some great ones too.
