Progress on the Dauntless that I had bored .030 over.

This is the "Hamsted Green" that the forum recommended as the closest match.

I have dropped the transmission and, other than the tag (which I didn't expect to find), I haven't done anything to it yet. My question is what is the best way to check it out? The Jeep hasn't run since '91 when the previous owner died. I expect it ran, but it just sat once he passed. I am planning to rebuild the emergency brake and do the fluids, of course. What else should be done to determine if it should be rebuilt? Thanks in advance for the advice.

    Have you driven this Jeep?

If you have not, I'd just assume that the internal workings of the transmission and transfer case are ok. Take the top off of the transmission and the pan off of the transfer case and look inside for carnage. Removing these parts from a Jeep is not that difficult - I've done it in my driveway with just my muscle, a bunch of wood blocks, and the factory scissors jack.

If you rebuild the the parking brake, I'd suggest that you take some extra measures to prevent leaks from your transfer case. The Dana 18 is notoriously leaky, and there have been a lot of posts here discussing how to make it leak less. Leaks from the transfer case will render your parking brake ineffective pretty quickly. So double seals, sealant on the shim pack, sealant on the shaft splines, sealant on the bolts, likely more places. I'd start with a pan of solvent and a small wire brush to clean the outside of everything.

Isn't that chain the Advance Adapters clutch conversion?

I have not driven it. I did have the top of the transmission off and it looked pristine. I'm glad you said that about the clutch being a conversion because I have not been able to find any information on that type of clutch. Thanks for the info.

It was packed and only took a few seconds with the drill before I could feel it start to pump oil. Worked great.

Is the paint the Hampsted Green Metallic. If so, what supplier did you get it from? It has to be the metallic flake to be very close to the original color.
