General Spring Kc - Any Opinion/review?

    1945 - 1975 Jeep CJ Leaf Springs

I came across this company out of Kansas. They have several different leaf spring offerings for the early CJs. Has anyone done business with them or can anyone attest to their product?

Did a search for General Spring - no results.

I'm looking for a NO LIFT replacement spring pack for my 55 CJ5. I've heard rave reviews on the BDS, Rancho, Superlift, etc....but they all offer some lift to the pack.

I'm down to the Omix replacement (kaiser willys), the Walck 4wd spring pack, or the ones offered thru Crown and Rock automotive. I read on some other boards that the Omix replacements have the full wrap.

Just trying to narrow down my options, but found these from General Spring.

I will hardly tow any weight on this rig. It will not be my daily driver. I will almost always have this thing offroad - nothing hardcore, just light wheeling going down semi-improved road and occassional mud holes.

It also appears they have a Tuxedo style leaf pack....3 arched and 2 flat leafs.

I would guess if they are in-line with prices from the regular Jeep retailers, they are distributing commodity springs from Omix or Crown or Dayton(?) Ask if they are making the springs themselves. I think your three options will be the commodity springs, a lift kit, or custom springs from a custom spring fab like Alcan or Deaver. Note that RockAuto carries the Dayton springs - don't know who makes them, but they are listed separately from the Omix springs, and are described well. The listings for General Spring look pretty much like the listings on the RockAuto page. If you want exact replacements for the originals, I think you'll have to buy through Alcan or such, at a significant premium.

Another thing - you could post again asking in the title if anybody has experience with the Dayton springs.

I think it says in there everything is american made, and they do make some stuff in house.

It says North America, which in my cynical reading says Mexico. Lots of car parts manufactures have factories in Mexico, where the labor costs are low and the shipping is convenient. Could be ... Canadian ... and we all know what that means! ;)

Their "about us" page says that they switched from drop-ship to warehousing in 2014, which to me implies that they don't build any of these springs. Instead they are a distributor of warehouse and possibly custom products. I don't see anything about the company making any of the products it sells. Nothing wrong with that, but if they aren't making the product in their shop, it's probably available elsewhere.

The specs for these springs are similar but not exactly the same as the Dayton springs on RockAuto. Different supplier? I don't know. If there is now a factory in Mexico making these springs, a wide variety of specs may be available.

The 2-stage springs listed are only for the rear only. Many "lighter duty" Regular CJ5's had the 3/2 style 2-stage rear springs too. I have never found the Tux spring rates, but assume they were the same as the regular CJ5 sold at the same time.
The Front springs for a Tux were also 2-stage, but with 6 leaves (4/2 spring pack).

Its worth noting that the springs sold at Walck's are not crown/omix. I was told they have a deal with a custom spring company here in the US. They look pretty well made but I haven't experienced the ride yet.

I got my wagon springs from Walck's a little over 10 years ago, so far so good. :)

Looking at Walck's prices, they quite close to the Dayton and General Spring prices. This sounds to me like the OP's answer, since Walck's has a good reputation within the Jeeper community, and are quite likely to be providing a quality product and representing them accurately.
