Are they similar to the 76+ ones? Were they an option, or some dealer/aftermarket thing?

No........'75 was the last year for the "early" design. The early design has the speedo in the center with a guage on either side of it. Heater controls are under the dash in a group of three with a fan switch. "76 and up stack the heater controls vertically in the dash plate. There are several members here with photos of their rigs that include dash shots. Check 'em out.

That's the dash "board". He's talking about the "pad" that goes at the top of the dash. The '75 and older dash pads are different than the '76 and up units. They look different and attach different. I had one and sold it quite a while ago. I think I deleted the pics I had so sorry for no help there. These were common on Renegade's I've been informed so you might look for pics there also. Hopefully someone here will chime in with pics. Nickmil.

Yes, padded dash. A factory option. Basically a vinyl-covered hard foam pad that hung off the windshield frame. Had a simple shape, unlike the '76 and later pads. All the ones I remember were black, but they may have matched the trim color.

Yep - that must be for a Levis Jeep. The standard (earlier?) one is mostly the same shape but the vinyl cover is sewn together and glued on. Probably came in black and beige (the two standard seat colors).

I have one on my 67 that probably came off a 72-75. Don't know if they were available earlier than that. Mine is Levi Blue. I have seen black ones also. Not sure I like it on there, but got it cheap in good shape and it matches my blue jeep somewhat so thought I would try it out.
The later ones are different, and I have seen black ones and levi tan ones. May have been blue or maroon ones also but not sure. The later ones came in 2 versions, the difference is in the very outside corners. Some had a thick corner and some a thin corner so as to not interfere with the wing window on the hard doors. So one could say that the thick corners were only used on soft tops, but I have seen some factory hard doors that do not have moveable wing windows, so I don't think that is a hard and fast rule.
The early ones attach at the w/s hold down clamps and have 3 little straps on the back that screw to the w/s frame at the top, kinda where the defrost ducts are.
The later ones attach at the top of the dash UNDER the w/s frame, must lower the w/s to get it off, and also has screws at the bottom that go straight into the dash.
My early style also looks like it had some double sided tape on the back of it at one time.
One of my straps is broken off and I am not using the other 2, didn't want to drill holes. The 2 w/s clamps are holding it on just fine.
I am in the field training right now but should be back in a week and a half and could get pics then.

Also, there are(were?) aftermarket hard plastic ones available for the later unit that has a storage compartment and a place for speakers, don't know if there was/is a similar product for the earlier ones.
Knew 2 guys that had them, one liked it and the other hated it.

I have an extra Levi Blue one for my '75 Renegade that I may sell if you are looking for one.

Someone had one for sale on JU.com.

It looked as though it had been stored in a hot, dirty dustbin for roughly 25 years.

Here is what he said in the email:
"OMIX dash pads for 76+ are running $160. This should be worth more due to its scarcity."

    I told him I'd pass....

    R) R)
WOW!!!! I would have jumped on that one!!!!.............................NOT!!!

Actually both of mine look just like the one in MNTrailboss's Jeep. I even have an extra set of matching Levis visors somewhere too. Maybe I could sell all of them and buy a new Corvette with the proceeds if you follow that guy's logic!

Had one that looked just like that. Had it up for sale for a LONG time. Think I finally got something around $30 plus shipping for it. Was happy to get that out of it. I've seen them go for a lot more, but I wasn't able to get more out of it. Nickmil.

[WOW. That is SHARP! What is the deal with your speedo? It looks grey!]

Speedo has been in the sun muy long time. I touched up the the needles on the speedo, fuel, and temp gauge with some flourescent orange paint from the local craft store (color was spot on). Other than replacing the translucent film (red and green junk) for brights, turn signal, etc. I left it alone.

Funny that my dash pad has those two holes filled in where the windshield brackets mount through to the lower windshield. Does this other version just rely on those little tabs?

You mean the metal tabs with screws through them? Yes. The pad is really stiff and hard though, so the tabs are enough.

My neighbor is an upholsterer. He could whip up one of those in about an hour, maybe two. Are they plywood backed?

Mine was metal backed with the screw tabs spot welded on. YMMV.

Mine has the holes where the w/s clamps go and the bolts that hold on the clamps also holds on the dashpad. That one also looks stitched together, mine looks molded like the 76 and later ones. Guess there are some variations on the the earlier ones.

Eeeewww, someone dug up an old thread! :D Oh well. I've been trying to find one of these. So, if you have one to sell, let me know. Doesn't need to be perfect! Black is first choice, but not too fussy.
