    hey guys n gals
I'm tryin to get this thing wired up to see if she'll start.
Just got alt put on need another lower gen bolt seeing how PO messed up old one. Anyhow. I'm not sure what wire to put on the alternator??
Guessing the big red wire went to the vreg not sure tho. There is also a small grey wire cut off there also.
I removed the old voltage regulator and the resistor.
Seen I have a cool says use with external resistor so idk what to do.
Grrr pic too large on my phone to attach. Can txt it or email whatever

Resize it, then drag and drop. Easy. Plenty of freeware resizing programs on the net. I use PixResizer.

A one-wire alternator has one wire, the big red charging wire to the battery. Plus ground through the case. The regulator is internal to the alternator. One wire.

So big red wire goes to alternator. That's simple enough. I resized it but can't get it to attach to a reply or on a pm sighs. X

I ran mine to battery side of solonoid. 20180824_201624.jpg

My high gauge runs to the starter which then runs back to the battery. A small leg off that starter point then provides the basis for my switched hot.

    Oh ok. Thanks
So should I change the coil to one without external resistor ? If not how is that wired? The resistor is on the firewall but no sign of wires that ran to it.
I think PO was in some stage of changing over to alt from generator.
The generator I have I thought was 12v idk maybe it's 6 didn't look coz I was going with alt setup.
It's up for grabs if someone wants to deal somethin I need for it

I prefer the internal resistance coils, but that is pure preference. In the external setup, resistor connects in series between the swicthed hot and the coil.

I'd rather an internal one also but if this one works I'll use it for now I guess.
So the heavy red wire coming from switch goes to the resister then to the pos on coil??

    Yea,run a internal resisted coil?

    Yes.

Make sure you're grounded as well. If you use the motor as a ground, make sure the motor is grounded back to the battery -.

    Ok gotcha
I put new ground straps on when I had body off one from frame to tub and one from engine to frame neg battery cable goes to engine

I'm anal about my grounds. I grounded by tub to my frame, my frame to my motor, and my motor to my battery - all in the same area, and I keep em all super clean. bad grounds are one of the easier things to keep right and a stinker to troubleshoot if they are all over the place.

    IMG_1843.JPG IMG_1844.JPG IMG_1843.JPG Ok so when u buy a 1 wire alternator that's not what u get anymore??
There was a plug covering what looks like 2 wires go??

Also. The heavy red from switch goes to battery side of solenoid then goes up to where it's cut off. That's what goes to resister then what's the green wire in harness going to the pos on coil ?
Was that what hooked to the resistor I wonder coz PO has a fuse in the two spades
In that case does the red heavy from solenoid still goto pos coil ?? Uggh.

Did you get it working or are you still confused?

Well I think..... the switched wire is already going to pos coil that's what the fuse is stuck into the two wire ends. The red wire is coming from the battery side of solenoid I just need to run that wire to the terminal with nut on rear of alternator.
I'm still wondering about that plug that was in side of alt it's in the pic laying there. Is it a permanent plug coz I don't use them? If I have to wire them what goes there.
Didn't think this was spose to be so dam difficult I must be stupid idk

Some of the early Delcotron type alt used that plug in the alternator. It has a built in diode that is needed for the excitation to start the alt charging. Your instructions should have explained the use of this plug.

    IMG_1855.JPG Instructions Didn't get any
I talked to the seller and I just need the b+ from battery

Wonder if I can run the gauge wire to the lower spade terminal on that side?
Kinda like ''tis pic but without the red jumper wire

What gauge are you talking about?
