First pic is of what I am working on, 72 CJ5. I tore this apart about 5 years ago and am now putting it back together. I didn't do a very good job of documenting where things went.

The second pic is where my question come from. What are the 3 holes that I have circled for. I ran the speedo cable through the middle one but I am not sure if that is correct and have no recollection of what the other 2 are for.

Thanks in advance for any input.

I think, and this is going from memory, the far left one is the drain for your cowl/air intake on your heater, the middle one is for your throttle cable, and I dont recall what the far right one is, ebrake maybe?.

72 Ebrake Cable Routs through towards the bottom of the firewall the 6"ish Oblong hole is there to access the Headlight dimmer connections and the Ebrake Hole. the one on the far right I belive is for one on the heater Hoses and the one in the center (I think) is for where the Ignition Wire is routed, due to that is the general location for hte resistor on the ignition circuit. the large hole just to the left of where you master cylinder is located is the original location of the Fuse Block

The square hole on a raised and angled area is for the throttle cable, so that's out. I think you're right about the speedo cable going through the center round hole. You need a big grommet to isolate it from the metal edge.

Is the small one in the middle for the choke cable?

    interesting
I thought that the 72 and later Jeeps eliminated choke and throttle cables, auto chokes and such
maybe 258s still used choke cable??

On my 73 the hose for the windshield washer runs through there and on up to the squirter nozzle on the cowl.

No, no manual choke on any '72 or later model. Not sure when it was eliminated.

Here is a better pic of the hole on the passenger side. Further over you can see the heater hose and drain holes. But I still have no idea what the big one is for. When I got the Jeep it had a piece of duct tape over it.

I had to delete one of my other pics in order to upload this one. I have a new pic of the speedo cable running through the center hole using the old grommet (did not come with a new one), but I can't upload it without deleting another pic from this thread.

Is it me or did that jeep change colors.

Oh and a trick to posting duplicate copies of a picture is to save it with a new name...like Pic1 saved as Pic2

I never would have guessed that since mine is broken. Any idea on the other 2 from the first pic?

Thank you. Exactly what I needed :D :stout:

BTW the color change is due to a cheap digital camera. It looks a lot better in person.
