I was unloading my Cj the other night getting it ready for its annual bath and happen to notice that the fuel tank filler neck is nearly resting on the frame as I looked further I saw that the rubber grommet on the rear passenger side fuel tank mount was rotted out and collapsed has anyone replaced these? How far is your gap from the frame rail to the filler neck? This doesn't look right. I'm thinking of using a thicker grommet since i have the room (jeep has a body lift). I made some replacements from rubber stoppers I had. I cut the stopper height in half and drilled a hole. Seems to be ok. I'm sure you could find something that would work on the McMaster-Carr site, or use a section of tire sidewall.

Went out to look at mine, and it's close but off the frame rail, say 3/16". I can put the tip of my finger in, but not my whole finger. There is a rectangular dent in the filler pipe that aligns with the frame rail and gives a little extra distance.

Thanks Tim, Yea mine is defiantly closer than 3/16" and saw the dent on the filler pipe thought it had gotten it from the frame rail at first since in this case it as resting on the rail. The grommet must have been darn near original there is not much cushion left in it. I"ll be getting a new one in there before my next fill up.

I mounted my tank without the rubber bent the filler up slightly to miss the frame.
