Pilot Bushing Too Big

So I've tried and failed with my pilot bushing and I need some help.

I pulled the old one out (it was still very tight, but it had chipped on the front and back) and measured it.
    Inside diameter .68
    Outside diameter 1.813

Went to get a new one, and they all measure
    ID: .6725
    OD: 1.853

I think my old one was a little worn on the inside, so I wasn't worried that the ID were a little off. The outside diameter is a different story. I bought one and tried to install it. It took forever with too big of a hammer to get the thing in. By the time I had it in, it had cracked, and caved in a little - the transmission input shaft wouldn't fit anymore - so I took it back out, even more work! I've looked and looked, but it seems like this is the standard size bushing and they don't make one with and OD that is .04 smaller. Does anybody have any ideas on how to make it fit, or where to get one that has just a bit smaller outside diameter?

I would suspect it's a custom pilot bearing that works with your T-19. Suggest you call Novak and ask if they have a pilot bushing for you. They sell lots of different components to support their adapter packages.

Note you should need a puller to get the pilot bushing out of the crankshaft. There should also be a few thousandths clearance between the pilot tip and the bushing. Measure the pilot tip and compare to your new bushing. This seems like a better approach than comparing to the old bushing.

What year is your engine? The parts book shows a different pilot bearing depending on year. 3213751 is for '72-75 all, and '76-79 not CJ. '76-79 CJs use a 3212723, all MT. '80 uses a 3236726 all models. Apparently there is lots of variability. And you are not running a Jeep transmission.

I don't have a puller but I have had luck packing the bearing cavity with grease then push(hammering)a shaft into it to force them out. I also have run a tap in to them also if the material is tread-able to do the same process.

    Thanks for the thoughts.

I had no trouble getting the bearing out - just getting it in.
The engine isn't original, but the marker on the side says that is for a '75, so I think I'm good there.

I called Novak and they are sending me a bushing that they say will fit. They didn't tell me the specs before they sent it, just took my measurements and said that they'd send the right one out. Hopefully I'll know in the next week or so if it fits.

Then - on to figuring out the right size throwout bearing and all the measurements that come with that ...
