Agreed - I did want to make the point that if somebody wants to upgrade their ignition system, KEEP ALL of your old parts until you're satisfied with the upgrade. I sold my old stuff as soon as I got the new electronic system going.

You just need to have faith in the new stuff. I have a long track record with HEI components lasting a long time. Sometimes I think about replacing them just because they are old, but who knows about the new parts? If it ain't broke, leave it alone, (and carry spares).

Started mocking up the power steering for the tan cj5. Found this at the scrap yard.

and beginning to see how it fits. Had to reclock the DUI
    [IMG]
then hung it all to paint it

I've ordered the input joint, pitman, and hoses. Wish me luck.

Ahhh...the luxuries of having a V8 and being able to reclock the dizzy wherever you want it!

I used a Chevy bellhousing, but I also used an SM465 and an adapter to the Dana 18, so that was natural. I also used a FiTech ECU and harness with the stock intake and injectors. For me, the self learning feature in the aftermarket ECU's outweighs the cost compared to using factory computer and harness. I'd use a Holley computer next time just because their support is better than FiTech's.

Gave the grandkids a ride in the M38A1 yesterday.
They were wrapped up like Eskimos.

I live in the land of Ohio, where they use your tax money to rust your jeep to the ground. Today was cold, so it was brake line day. Says I can't post pictures, to big.

Yesterday, I got the body moved over in the shop, brought the frame in, so I can start striping it down. Did get a couple of photos of the the hood out in natural light.

I built a latch that holds the tire carrier open.

A couple metal tabs one welded to the carrier and one to the bumper.

I bent a ramp into the tab on the bumper and it latches without lifting the handle when I push it open.

    nickmil In mothballs.

Where did you get that latch handle? I’m assuming it is spring loaded?

It is spring loaded. It was scavenged from a hitch mounted luggage rack.

73 cj5 Not ready for the junkyard yet

I've been cleaning and painting all the sheet metal parts; once they're dry, the fhead will be ready to meet the frame.

Managed to button up the knuckles. Set the preload on the tight side just in case this Jeep gets larger tires. I used flange sealant around the spindle and thread sealer on the bolts in hopes of keeping leaks at bay. Instead of whipping up some knuckle pudding, I opted for Lucas Hub Oil.

I hope you didn't put sealer on the spindle bolts without backing plates in place.

Cold and windy tday, so I worked in the shop.
I had issues with my horn contact on the column on the 73, so I Bubba'd a fix for it.
the plastic holder for the contact was broke, and it seems to be unobtanium
    [IMG]
so I looked around the shop, and found a piece of 1 1/2 plastic pipe and made something that works. I pop riveted the contact to the plastic and stakeon
    not pretty, but functional

Pm me that picture and the dimensions of the plastic boss, hole centers and diameter of the column. if I get to it I get to it. PETG should be fine and I have black.
