where steel 16" rims ever offered on the '55-'71 cj5's? i found a set in the local calssifieds that came off a 60's cj5. are there any markings on the rims to identify their authenticity?

What would the 16" x 6" steel wheels have come on? Like the ones on animal.

CJ5/3B or two of 'em from a Willys Truck that was junked in western Nebraska to be exact.

Back when I had a 1962, low mile/no rust CJ5, that I never should have sold...anyway it had original 16 inch rims.

Didn't all early Willys Jeeps, trucks, wagons, etc., come with essentially the same 16" steel wheels? Except for the WWII combat rims, of course.

I believe that the truck rims had a different offset. I 've got two sets of 16s, one offa Maggy that appear from the paint to be originals & a set I bought, vintage unknown. A quick check I did one day showed the the purchased set had about 3/4" more offset towards the inside- i.e. a wider stance. One of my rainy day web projects is to take some pics documenting this.

This is something that I'd like to know for sure. I want to put the correct style of original steel 16" wheels on my '56, with 7.00x16 NDT's.

    jpflat2a what's that noise?

from what I can gather (1959 parts manual) the stock factory wheels for CJs for that era would be 16 x 4.50
    they listed a 16 x 5.00 as heavy duty
    book also shows 15 x 4.50 as spec equip for 15 x 7.00 tires

    AND
    13 x 4.50 for CJs, 3B, 5 and 6
that's interesting, can't say I have ever seen that size on a Jeep

I have three of one width and the fourth is another. I say screw it, it's a Jeep and it won't care. It's a springtime project for me to sandblast 'em and get some NDT's. That odd 4th wheel also has a different design in the lug/flange area. I think it's newer than the other three.

Two of the "unknown vintage" ones I have also have the different bolt holes- the one on the left is "bumpless"-

This was thrashed out on the WT board a few years ago when I bought these rims. Apparently Willys bought wheels from other manufacturers besides Kelsy Hayes, the ones with the raised area around the holes are KH. The other manufacturer was named in the postings but darned if I can find the relevant thread now :(. Either way on the rims I have the ones from Maggy are all KH, the ones I bought have the same offset (different from Maggie's) even between the two manufacturers.

I'll take some better photos & measurments sometime this week & post them to this thread.

That odd one I have also has a .25" different offset I just discovered. So I have two KH 16x6 and two 16x5.5. one of which is a KH and the other with the odd offset is of unknown make. I suspect it is much newer. It has raised triangular sections between the lug holes and a smaller ID at the hub. So I guess that'll have to go on the rear axle because it does not look big enough to fit over the front hubs. I better measure that to make sure it will work at all now that I think of it. Rats. I sure hope it does. Gotta love old jeep parts "deals".

Smaller hub ID, and raised areas between the lug holes - Are you sure it's not a Ford rim?

Could be:? As long as it fits I'll ignore the OEM fitment. I have heard that Ford rims do work on CJ's. I'll pretend it's an old Bronco race part.

Well, as per usual somewheres along the line I became delusional- earlier this evening I measured all the rims I have &, +/- a few thou, they're all the same offset, about 3.6" from the back to the center.

The only thing I can figure is the smoke from that crack pipe people keep passing around in here is starting to get to me :(.

I'll just quietly go away now-
