Isn't the stock steel 5 on 5.5" wheel from that era 6" wide? IIRC the stock 6 on 5.5" from the '70s is 7" wide. The Renegade steel wheels were 8" wide as I recall.

According to this article http://www.buicks.net/shop/reference/tires.html the H78-15 is about the same as a P225/75R15.

I have an owners manual for the 1972 models (CJ5, Commando, Wagoneer & Truck). Ain't that great, 1 owners manual for all 4 models. It specifies 3 tire sizes for a standard Commando, 7.35 x 15, 8.55 x 15 and H78 x 15. A heavy duty model used 6.00 x 16 tire. From my research, the closest radial size is 235/75R15. I have these mounted on K-H 5 (or 5 1/2) x 15 wheels, again, what I believe to be the OEM wheel. Hope this points you in the right direction.
