I found a Fiberglass top for a ?76-86 cj5 and i want to know if it will fit on my 67... can anyone help by telling me if there are any differences in the years that would make the top not fit an earlier model?

you are correct. that is what i have, and it was a simple conversion.

he can use hinges for either the earlier cj's or those from '76 and later. with the '76/later windshield hinges, he'll also get the integral door hinges, which would most likely work with the top he found. if he uses his stock hinges, he'll need to figure out a way to mount the doors. i'm assuming the top has doors. if not, he is in for modification of stock doors.

Aren't the pre '72 tubs different at the door openings than the intermediates?

Tubs are interchangeable from 55-75. The font of "Jeep" changes but that's about it.

    Wait just a moment!!

If you are going to swap out the windshield frame for a newer one, why not go for a Wrangler windshield frame?

I have done this before, and while there is a little more work involved, what you will end up with is two distinct advantages...

    1) It won't leak!! The Wrangler frames had a different style windshield gasket, so in the rain you won't feel a need for an umbrella under the dash for your feet.

    and...since it won't leak, it won't rust!!

Oh, and benefit 1-a -- you can get rid of those nasty little areas on the windshield that don't defrost very well because of the way the windshield defroster vents are configured.

    2) You get the small brackets that are at the top of the windshield frame for the lateral roll bars that extend from roll bar to windshield frame.

I did this with a 86 CJ7 that had a rusted windshield frame. Cutting the holes for the defroster was not hard, just tedious. I used a Dremel tool for the upper vents and a sabre saw for the bottom input vents.

    good luck

    Yes.

As long as the top you are trying to mate to is a 76 and newer, then the windshield from a Wrangler will work.

You'll have to deal with three things in this swap.
    1) the defroster
    2) the windshield hinges
    3) the windshield wipers.

If you don't already have electric bottom mounted wipers then there will be no problem. I had to fiddle with the grounding on the Wrangler windshield that I fitted to my cj-7. I remember that there was a wire going to ground on the Wrangler frame that I had to cut.

It was an easy fix, and you may not have the problem at all, but it is something to look for.

The toughest part was cutting the defroster vents. It wasn't hard, just tedious.

I used a breathing mask when cutting with the dremel tool, because I didn't want to breathe the fumes from the fiberglass cutting wheel.

On a scale of 1 - 10 in difficulty level with 10 being most difficult, I'd place this swap at a 2.
