Hello all, I have a 74 with the solid rear panel (no tailgate). My question is "does it use the same spare tire mount as the side?" Thanks in advance.

No, it came with the spare mounted at the center rear. Uses a different tire bracket that mounts to the rear panel. Also has a different rear clearance light - rectangular on both sides - and different right rear quarter panel with a recess for the rectangular light.

Thanks. I knew it went on the back, but wasn't sure about the same bracket or not. Since it is different, does anyone know where I can get one? Tim, I'm not understanding the light thing. Could you try again? Pics possible?

What Tim means is...on a regular CJ5 with a tailgate and the side-mounted spare, the right rear clearance light was round and mounted in the center of the spare bracket, and the right rear fender was smooth. The left rear fender had a recess formed in it, and a small rectangular clearance light was mounted in the recess.

I only understand it because I've read it here before.:D

Thanks, basically it is the marker light. What is the hook or tab at the bottom of the bracket underneath where the tire bolts on? I'm looking at the diagram provided.

it would be a stop or rest for the tire to rest/mount against
it helps to eliminate top to bottom wobble of the spare while driving

yup. it's a spring [leaf-like]. does exactly what jim states. keeps the spare tight when the lugs are tight, that way the tire itself doesn't wobble.

mine is a block of wood that the side of the tire rests on to keep it from vibrating.

Now that's what I need welded to my Kayline tire and jerry can carrier. It would give me the clearance for a tow pintle.

If anybody finds where to get one of the spare brackets let me know, I could use one too. And I was just going to ask about the solid tub and no tailgate on my 74 CJ5 but didn't want to sound stupid (I wasn't sure it was a factory thing........... glad I didn't have to ask!

I know this sucks, but I had one I sent to the scrap yard cause I couldn't find anybody who needed it. I guess thats how it works, whenever I get rid of something I find someone who needed it. Now if I just had a warehouse I could really collect some stuff.

Ain't that the truth? I think all men have a little bit of packrat in them. Especially motorheads.
