Which engine? 6? V8? Which transmission? 3 speed? 4 speed?

Engines are basically the same. Transmissions are different, but pretty close.

No problem with the engine. Basically identical except for maybe pulleys and brackets and such. Take the accessories from the '75 engine and bolt them on the '79 engine.

The transmission is different. The '74 has a Borg-Warner T-14 and the '79 is a Tremac T-150. The T-150 would be an upgrade from the T-14, but I expect it's a slightly different length so you'll probably have to move the crossmember. There's a good chance you can get away with the '75 driveshafts and not have to change their lengths. You must use the '79 bellhousing.

The T-150 will bolt up to your '75 transfer case, but make sure the tooth count and pitch is the same, since you'll have to use the T-150 bull gear. There's a chart on the Novak site that shows the gear compatibility for the Dana 20.
