Running on 5

    At LBL a couple weeks ago I developed a miss at the end of the day. I thought it sounded and felt like it was missing on one cylinder. I have since changed plugs and wires and nothing got any better. The passenger side exhaust sounds normal but the drivers side sounds like a Harley. The problem is on the drivers side for sure but I'm not sure what to look for next. Any ideas?????? The only other thing I was going to look at was pull the valve cover and make sure everything was functioning correctly.

    with engine idling
    you can pull the plug wires off the plugs one at a time
    to detect the faulty cylinder
    the plug wire being removed won't affect engine idle as much as the others will
    the plan to pull the valve cover will work as well

    bent or broken pushrod,broken or miss adjusted rocker arm,burned or bent valve,blown headgasket all could cause this condition,that is why i sugested the compression check,if the compression check is good then you have me stumped since you have replaced the plugs wires etc:coffee: almost forgot well i did forget:rofl: could have a cam lobed wiped out also

    agree about the cam lobe. simple way would be to check the exhaust heat on each cylinder. that's how I found I had a bad one before I rebuilt the motor.

    i trashed a lobe on my scouts slat 4, i can tell you that sucks. i currently have a head off my corvair because of a broken springs, thats sucks as well, let us know what you rule out so we have a better idea of what it might be

    It was roasting hot that day but I didn't hear anything mechanical wrong with your engine, so guess that rules out dropping a valve. Since there is no lash adjustment on a :v6: what about trash in a lifter holding it open? I'd find which cylinder is missing (pull spark plug wire or compression check) and then pull the valve cover. Spray some Gumout down around the pushrods for that cylinder while it is running and see if that loosens them up. That's about the end of my cheap and easy solutions. Everything else seems to involve a can opener for the engine.....
