Anyone got any info on 1974 turn signal switch I have one that came with my jeep but cant tell if it is original and cant figure out the wiring on it cause the harness has been cut off it. DOes anyone have a diagram for the switch? Ill try to get some pictures so I can identify it better.

Is there any way to test to see what wire controls the left or right turn etc? I have a plug like that setting around but it doesent match the colors on my switch.

Do you know how to use a digital voltmeter? (DVM - actually measures volts, ohms and amps, but typically called a DVM). Test which wire has continuity when you move the handle.

There's a '72 manual online at www.C104.net - it has a wiring diagram. I think that the '74 uses inline fuses like a '72, so it should be similar. Even if your Jeep has a fuse block('75 style), the plug locations and wire colors should be the same or close.

Not sure if the colors were always the same, but here's what mine were:

    Brake Switch - Brown
    LR Turn - Blue
    LF Turn - Yellow
    RR Turn - Orange
    RF Turn - Black
    Flasher - White

Here's a good rebuild guide on the Sparton unit:

Based on what the 1974 FSM shows:

The right front turn wire and right dash indicator wire are supposed to be black with a tracer, and plug into the middle plug of the 3-plug row on the bottom of the connector shown above.

The right rear turn wire is supposed to be orange, and plug into the top-most plug of the connector shown above.

The left front turn wire and left dash indicator wire are supposed to be yellow with a tracer, and plug into the bottom right plug of the connector shown above.

The left rear turn wire is supposed to be light blue, and plug into the right-most plug in the middle row of the connector shown above.

The wire to the stop-light switch is supposed to be brown and plug into the left-most plug in the middle row of the connector shown above.

This leaves the flasher wire, which is supposed to be white, and plug into the left-most plug in the bottom row of the connector shown above.

Of course, I do wear glasses and am cross-eyed, so if yours is a mirror image of what I've described, it's probably right.:(
