There's a J10 at the junkyard that may have the T98 in it. Would this be something I could swap into my 59 CJ behind the F Head?

I feel like the input shaft on the J truck trannies is longer - and it's bolted to a transfer case with a center output. Any ideas whether this is a good swap for me?

Mmm. There never was a J-10 with a T-98. The T-98 was gone after 1968, and the J-10 started in 1973 or 1974. If it's really a J-10, then it will be a T-18. The T-18 top cover has T-98 cast into it. Maybe you mean a J2000?

Which engine? The J-trucks B-W 4-speed has a very long input shaft.

IIRC the F134 T-98 has a unique input shaft, and also uses a plate adapter to the F134 bell. I don't think a different T-98 will be much use without those.

I thought it'd be more trouble than its worth.

The truck says J10 on the side and has the 230 or 232 straight six and a gladiator-type grill.

The Gladiator (aka rhino or rhino-chaser) grille is worth some money. That grille is very popular.

If it's really a J10, it'll be a 258, not a 230 or 232. The T-18 behind a 258 is worth having, if you are so inclined. I'd certainly take it if it were near me. Does it have a VIN plate?

I got the 'vent cover's that mount directly inboard of the lights. The grill on this one and ther other jeep truck, which was marked j 2000, were both bent, but I may go and get the one of the j 2000 because its not bad.

The T98 wasn't used after 1968? I have a 1969 CJ5 and it has a T98 that is original to the Jeep, or is it possible that it's T18 that has a T98 top cover?

    Not in a J-truck.

Don't know that much about the pre-72 CJs, but my understanding is that the T-98 was available with the F134 in a CJ through 1971.
