My d 18 transfer case leaks ....a lot. so I bought a gasket/seal kit and I am going to go at it this weekend. It appears to be leaking everywhere. So I'm planning on taking it off and replacing the the seals and gaskets. Any hints? While I have it off is there anything I should be looking for. I goes in and out of gear with no problems. I do notice some noise while coasting in 3rd (in 2wd). Any thoughts would be apprieciated

    Thanks,
    Scott

If leaking around the bottom oil pan-check to see if the flange on the oil pan is flat- chech the mating surface on the case so that it is flat. You can take a file to the case to cut down any high spots. replace oil seals for both rear and front out put shafts. replace shiftfork seals if they leak. If you are going to pull the case, take the time to replace the gaskets and seals. A gasket set is very inexpensive. Try Krage Motorsports, they are reasonable and always very helpful.

Something sometimes missed is the fact some of the bolts go through the case so some thread sealer is helpful. You might do a search as this has been covered extensively in the past. Some suggest doubling the oil seals at the front and rear yokes. I have worked on my D20 a couple of times and have most of the leaks stopped but it can be tough to get all of them.

While you have it out, you should replace the intermediate shaft, bearings and thrust washers.
