Fuel pump eccentric

    My :v6: fuel pump eccentric has a groove worn in it at the highest point. Would it be possible to repair it by welding up the groove and sanding it back down? A new one is only $35 from TA Performance, but I just ordered $120 worth of gaskets and seals and my Jeep fund is empty.

    I'd be afraid of annealing it, making it too soft from the heat. Fill it with JB and sand it down. I did it to mine....Mine just had some minor pitting though.

    It looks like it's cast, I suspect it's not hardened. I was thinking of welding with a high nickle content rod. The weld would be harder than the cast iron.

    I'm sure it's case hardened....

    Yep, you're right. I got it off this afternoon and it's defiantly hardened. I'm still going to try repairing it. We have some special welding rods at work that we use for hardened stuff.

    Oh well, didn't have much luck with this. After cleaning the eccentric in a heated ultrasonic parts washer it looked shiny and clean. As soon as the heat would hit it, unseen oil would come out of the pores of the metal. I couldn't get it clean enough to get an acceptable weld. I figured it wasn't any good the way it was so I haven't lost anything.
