    Found another nice civilian cj-5 1967 v-6

except this one has a small gas tank drivers side filler neck
looks smaller than the m38a1 gas tank
The other thing is that the floor beneath does not seem to have that much of a pan shape where the tank sits in
Were the floors on the drivers side m38a1 and civilian pre 1971 all the same?

    thank you

    mark,

Nope. What you see is correct for a CJ.

By definition, a CJ is a "civilian jeep". A "civilian CJ' is redundant, just FYI.

The CJs have civilian features, and the militarys have military features. The big filler neck and the deep gas tank are military characteristics. In the USA, M38A1 production ended in 1954. Pretty sure that Canada carried on with that design for much longer, but I'm not sure what Canada called its military Jeeps.

If you do, DeBella has the sheet metal floor well. http://www.debellajeepparts.com/m38premier.htm

The military tank also has a much larger filler neck and grommet, that would need alteration also.

The Marines continued to get new A1's all the way through 71. Just not the Army. The tub is different where the large filler bolts in, it is flanged with captive nuts. The Military tank is $400 while the civilian tank is $100. I was adamant about keeping most of the militaria on my jeep so I bought the repop tank which I found for $285 two years ago. Not sure I would do it again for the price. The tank well also makes for TIGHT clearance on the drivers tire with big tires. Will make doing a cage or rocker guards more difficult as well.
