I did a search, but came up with very little. I have a 74 CJ5 that currently is in pieces, with no engine. It has a T14 that was originally behind a straight six. I have several late model 5.0 Ford engines, and the plan is to run one of those in the cj. Is it true that a T150 trans bolts up to a Ford bellhousing? Will that trans mate to my 20 transfer case? Or, should I just buy an adapter and run my T14? Anybody got a good build thread installing a 302? May help some. Thanks in advance.

I was going to do the same thing in my 72 but have since changed directions. I have conversion motor mounts, advance adapter, bearing retainer, conversion pilot bushing, rear sump oil pan, ford small block manual tranny bellhousing, clutch disk and throwout bearing. If using a 302/5.0 and a T-14/T-15, this is as complete a conversion "kit" as you can get. I'm asking 300.00 for everything if you're interested. I'm in winston salem NC. Not trying to solicit a sale, but thought I'd throw it out there...

The T-150 has the Ford butterfly pattern that matches the Ford V8 bell. Jeep outsourced the T-150 from Tremec; it's a copy of a Ford passenger car 3-speed, made on license. The Dana 20 (what you have) is the only transfer case that will work with the T-150. Be sure to get the output gear with the T-150 - it's specific to that application. I'd certainly prefer the T-150 to the T-14.

The small block Ford is pretty easy to mount in the engine compartment, from what I recall. Something about using two of the factory Jeep V8 driver's side mounts? Something like that. If you search you may be able to find details about this ...

I installed a Ford 302 ('90 5.0HO) in my '79 CJ5 over last winter, replacing the very tired AMC 304. I used a Ford T18 (6.32 first gear) w/ Novak adapter to my Dana 20. I used an '84 Bronco bellhousing, flywheel, block plate, and clutch. Fabricated clutch pivot shaft bracket and Heim joint linkage. I used Novak weld in mounts.

Novak website has a lot of good engine swap knowledge:

I personally wouldn't bother using any 3 speed when doing the swap. As long as you're going to the trouble and expense of an engine/tranny swap, you may as well put an upgraded tranny in too.

When I did my 5.0 swap I found that the Ford T-18 bellhousing will also bolt to the T-176. Any of the "butterfly" pattern trannys should fit, just make sure the center hole is the right size. The T-176 I already had in it mated to a D-300 T/C. There are lots of adapters out there.

I went with the "Bombproof" motor mounts from MORE, they made bolting the engine a breeze. You will also be happy to know the factory Jeep CJ radiator for a 304 V-8 is the correct configuration to work with the Ford V-8 as well.

Good luck & post pics. here is the link to my build
