I am in the process of restoring a 1958 Willys. I found it in a field and am doing a body off restoration. I think everyone who owned it since 1958 decided to jury rig the thing lol.

It has a plug where the speedo drive was. Any ideas on how I can get the drive parts or rig up an electronic speedo?

The jeep had no gauges or even a dash when I got it.

Yep, You can order a worm gear and speedo drive gear to match and install it yourself. That shouldn't be a problem.

Hopefully, because those gears are no longer made, and can be hard to find used...

Does it still have the drive gear inside? If so, you'll need to find out which one, and get the matching driven gear..

Looks like someone pulled everything and then screwed in a plug where the bushing was. Thanks

I'd have to look for it but I have a drive gear and I can pull the driven gear if you want it (4.88 gears). I replaced mine w/ a GPS system.:v6:

I use a GPS also, bought a new speed cluster and never got it hooked up yet so I just use the GPS velcroded to the roll bar.

For original parts look in the "where to buy parts" section. Walck's, R&P, Hermtheoverdriveguy, and others may have what you need. You will need to know what gear ratio you have in the axles to get the right gears so the speedo is accurate. You said you are restoring it yet you are considering an electronic speedo? I don't understand. Restoring is putting it back to original...

Thanks for all the info. I guess restoring isnt the right word. More like trying to "revive it lol". It has been butchered up since 1958.

Found a cool resource that had everything. JW Jeep in Sacramento CA. They are a Jeep wrecking yard and have tons of parts and advice.
