Has anyone used por 15 on leaf springs? If so any tips or suggestions. Will it affect the performance and flexibility?

    Thanks

I haven't used it on leaf springs or anything that flexes but it could crack if applied too thick...maybe not.

Last time I opened my quart it had a layer of dried stuff on top and it was brittle.

I found that no paint between the springs works the best. ( paint doesn't seem to allow the springs to move on each other) My springs were rusted, squeaky and ruff ride. I took them apart and sandblasted them and gave them a good coat of antiseize between the leafs and reassembled, painted just the out sides. ( por 15 I would think would work fine) They are still quite and flexy 6 plus years later. The only down side to this is the antiseize is abit messy and still works its way out between the springs.

A tiny bit of anti-seize goes a looooong way.

There is also graphite paint that you can purchase. You paint the springs with it and it is somewhat self lubricating. I don't remember where I saw it, maybe tractor supply, TSC, Grainger, someplace like that. I haven't used it myself but have spoken to people who says it works great. YMMV.

The mechanics at the Jeep dealer kept a pump oiler full of motor oil thinned with solvent just for lubricating leaf springs. Oiling the springs was part of a "service" for the car.

I've also seen teflon used between leaf springs so they slide against each other. You can buy sheet teflon lots of places, including McMaster-Carr and Small Parts Inc.

Personally, I'd wire brush them and paint with chassis black, then lube between the leaves.

All the write-ups I've seen recommend not painting between the leaves.
